When do I start seeing the sprout

How long does it take before my plant shows its head after planting the germinated seed? I filled my pot with super soil and planted the seed in seedling starter in the center of the soil.

Welcome to the forum.

Usually a few days if already germinated, but it can take a week to 10 days at the longest.

Good to know. It’s been about 24 hours. I just have it sitting near the window and plan to grow it outdoors once it hits about 6 inches above soil. I was getting worried when I didn’t see it yet so thanks for the mind ease.

What grow zone are you in? 6" can happen very rapidly, around 2 to 3 weeks. In my region outdoor planting isnt an option till around late april to mid may. Youll also want to harden off your plants before placing outdoors permanently. Thats just taking them outdoors each day and letting them adjust to sunlight for a couple hours then bringing them back indoors for the first few days to a week before you plan to place them outdoors.

I am in the coastal SE.We have a few more cold nights yet but we are looking at temps between 75-85 very soon. It’s an auto flower so hopefully it will be pretty much set it and forget it since it’s in super soil. With consistent watering I’m hoping for a decent yield.

I would still harden her off before straight outdoors. Just to get her used to the major difference in lighting. A couple days of real sun for a couple hours each day then let her ride.

Many thanks!

She’s inside getting light through the window. How big should it get before moving the pot outside?

A few weeks. The first week or two she will be trying to establish a root system and not much real growth can be seen from the surface, its all underground. Then by week 3 youll start to see vegetative growth more. By placing an oscillating fan on the seedlings on very low power and letting a gentle breeze wave over them it will help speed up the hardening process by strengthening the stems. Id start this around the end of week 2 and by the end of week 3 place them outside a couple hours a day for a couple days then place em in their forever homes.

@Lightyear if you live on the SE coast amd plan on outside, wait till about mid april to put outside just to make sure the temps dont dip… we’re under a freeze advisory tonight, and it was nearly 60° last night…

I don’t have it under a grow light. Will it be ok by the window?

Depends on how high quality your windows are. A lot of the new windows are sealed with a UV blocker for insulation reasons and will impede your plants ability to photosynthesis properly.

Depends on the window like @Fieldofdreams mentioned. Newer well insulated windows should be fine for temps. But older windows can still dip near freezing on the window sill if theres not a good seal or a draft. If it feels too cold it probably is.
