Is the quality of the bubble hash any better than the hash pucks from trics gleemed from a trim bin screen???
@dirtydave, Are you saying that if I like to wet trim my buds. I should let the trim dry and then freeze before using it to make bubble hash?
I’ve only done the ice bath bubble bag once. Outside (because its messy) in July with 80 temps. Not ideal. I used WWA from a very early grow. So the source was not the best. In the end the resulting kief was not that great. The first time through the bags did result in nice light and clean kief. As it was processed further and got beat up more plant material came through. I hand rolled the good kief and put in a jar in the refrig. It may still be there.
I now have several 23x30" print screens to make dry kief hash. I am waiting for cool temps before trying them out. I have jars and grove bags of sugar leaf trim to process.
Ive only processed one plant at a time fresh after drying. All the fluff, popcorn buds, trimmed sugar leaves ect. Ive got about 10/11 grams each in last two harvests but its real good. Just woundering if all the work is rewarded??
I think so my paint stirrer clogged up with wet trim it was pain in the butt it could have been the type ot stirrer I used though
The last couple have been pretty productive. The purple haze more so than the GDP. Between the last two grows and their clones I have over 200 grams of sugar leaves. I forgot to weigh the leaves from the last two GDP. Between this and the trim I have in the freezer it’s well over 2 zips. If I process all of that through screens I’m sure I’ll be sick of doing that.
I guess im just lazy that looks like a lot of work, though it appears to give a better yield than the trim bin but the tb kief is so pure no green in it.
I have only made bubble hash once also. I found it less messy and easier than I thought it would be.
I have a empty chest freezer, and I turned it on and set the bucket in it. So that things would be in a cold place during the process. I think this worked fairly well, but have nothing to compare it too.
Also there is a large hook about 4 foot off the floor close by, that holds an air hose. Setting the bucket under this I could hang each bag on the hook while it drained.
Next time I will take a tip from @dirtydave, and use two buckets in the freezer during the process. One plain 5 gallon with a somewhat dryer ice bath, and work the heck out the trim with the drill and paint stirring thing. Then pour this in the other bucket with the bubble bags, and add more cold water. Then gently stir this with a large wooden paint stir stick for awhile. The last time when doing it in one bucket I was afraid that the drill/stirrer would damage the bottom of the bubble bags.
I only use the sugar leaves for keif or hash. The fan leaves I throw in a cardboard box, and let completely dry. After there is a box full I chop them up, and spread them on the front lawn. Cheap fertilizer and it works. Also solved the problem of what to do with them.
Just one of the little benefits of it being legal. I don’t care who knows what that green stuff is that I am spreading on the lawn is.
What you see are the trimmings from the buds before it goes into grove bags to cure. It this point I don’t work it through the screen. Just collect and store.
Ahhhhh ya i just load the bags and scrub the leftovers till no more trics fall out. Whats left i thought was waste as the trics are alll gone???
Oh missed the cake happy birthday @beardless
Frenchy did both methods. He liked water hash because ot was easier and wasted less product. He could do larger batches with less time and effort. Screening is screening when you get right down to it, and which ever method you prefer is the one you should use.
You will at least need the bags for water or ice water hash. You cant make hashish for free unless you make screens from silk cloth that you find. That the way they do it in Afghanistan.
Not necessarily, however, some contaminants of broken leaves and stigmas may be in the trim bin product.
The stuff from my screens is almost pure trichomes.
The screens on the water ice bags will produce different grades of hash, from less contaminated to more contaminated. You can do multiple washes and get pretty much all of the trichomes, whereas woth the dry sift method, I dont even try for all of them, I only want first bounce and second bounce, the rest is made into topicals or edibles.
Looks great man! Get a loop or magnifying glass, before you press it, and have a look at it. Even my finest kief had some tiny bits of contaminants. You may be surprised to see little bits of stigmas, dust particles, tiny chunks of sugar leaf etc. If you want full melt you pretty much need all of that gone. Thats where carding through screens comes in. You cant card through water ice bags. Im serious, my buddy came to a dinner yesterday and had 3 hits off my glass pipe and couldnt smoke anymore. He was pretty ripped… we were all trying to play badminton and he was useless
.
I dont use a press, that looks pretty nice. I just roll by hand.
This is Tashkurghan hashish and if you leave it like that, it goes from a ball to a blob. It just starts to flatten out under its own weight.
