Weed & Feed Dilemma

I was about half way through my container grow with several containers and several different strains. All auto flower and beginning bud. They looked abut anemic so I went to the garage, it was dark but Idid have a flashlight. I found a bag that is fertilizer I use on my lawn. I took a generous scoop of the fertilizer thinking it would give my plants a boost of nitrogen and green up a bit. It was something like 20-30-30 or something like that. It was dark and I spread a relatively small dusting on the top of the pots. In the morning I thought something looked funny and to my horror realized that I had spread weed & feed on all my plants. Some of my plants were not bothered because they are not weeds or related species.
I tried to remove as much of the contaminated soil as
possible but about half of my plants were killed off and I was left with five. However, these plants did show signs of being contaminated but grew into nice buds.
Question: Are these buds safe to smoke? See pictures. Anyone have experience like this before? Any and all help would be appreciated.

I think they’re safe to smoke. That stuff uses corn meal gluten to dry out weed seeds, so they don’t sprout. I think you just dried out your root systems and gave them a big dose of nitrogen.
If you can get any more off, that is the best thing to do. You may want to flush the soil if you can, then give some proper food to the girls. Hopefully the excess nitrogen doesn’t stick around.

You’ve got a long ways to go by the looks of it.

If you remove as much of the fertilizer as you can and don’t feed again till they really need it i dont see why the flowers wouldn’t be safe to smoke. That said they are looking pretty unhappy, and very small.

How many days into this auto run are you?

Hi, thanks for the advice. I think I removed as much of the material as I can, and flushed the soil as best I can. I harvested some of them larger buds yesterday so once they’re dried and cured, I’ll see how they are.

I think the grow is pretty much complete. The stamens are about 60% brown so I think they’re well on their way. I chopped a few of the bigger buds yesterday. and I’ll see how they turn out once they’re dried and cured.

I started these in May and they got a bit of a rough start but they came through eventually so we’ll see what happens. Thanks for the advice. You guys are great respond quick, thanks.

Despite the appearance of the buds are really sticky and gooey.
Not to worry about the seven you see in the pictures, I also grow tomatoes, cucumbers, and other vegetables in my little deck garden. This year, I didn’t have to use it at all no bugs, very dry. So I did scrape up as much of the soil on the top as I could, I
Immediately notice my mistake immediately

Glyphosate is used in a lot of weed and feed. Do not smoke that. That is bad stuff. At least google the ingredients on the bag before you put that in your body

my bad, didn’t realize there was weed killer in there! As @Scratchy suggests, better look at the ingredients.

I STRONGLY suggest that you NOT smoke those buds. The act of lighting chemicals, even in trace amounts, can increase their toxicity by a significant margin. One of the largest chemical companies in the world — BASF — discontinued developing agricultural products for use on tobacco for this reason and to avoid liability.

Odds are that your weed and feed contains glyphosate and or dicamba — both are common weed killers and known carcinogens.

If I were in your shoes I would destroy those plants and start over.

OK, thanks for the heads up. I checked the ingredients, and it does indeed contain. Dicamba. And other bad stuff I am sure.
Stupid mistake, I acted without looking, and I will gladly pay the price. I’m glad I asked. The good news is, I don’t really smoke too much weed, I grow it as a hobby and since it’s now legal in Virginia, I can grow it out in the open. Believe it or not I still have buds left over from 2012 as well as last year and the year before. So, it will be a shame to trash what looks like good bud, but I’m already sick enough without adding to the hassle.
Thanks again all, better luck next year, and good bud to all, and to all a safe grow.
Tom.
