Volunteered as Tribute: an outdoor winter tale

This is likely to be one of the shortest grow journals of all time. :rofl: Sometime between Christmas and the New Year I noticed this little one in my side yard with its first pair of true leaves. I didn’t expect it to last a week, so i left it–two plus weeks and at least one frost later, it’s still holding on! It has been unseasonably warm in central Texas this year, but germinating and growing a volunteer cannabis plant outdoors in January is crazy!
We bought this property in the Austin area and built our forever home about five years ago. We’re in the country on nearly nine acres and had to harvest sand/clay from one area to raise the grade of this little fenced dog yard about four feet. Suffice to say, it is not a high quality planting medium!
Two indoor runs ago I had an old stock Northern Lights male that i crossed with two ILGM Grand Daddy Purple fems. It seems one of those seeds was on the ottoman tray when it was taken outside for dumping!
With the days as short as they are, it gets nearly 5 hours of direct full sun. I’ve not watered or fertilized and do not plan to. I’m going to let it do its thing and see what happens. Seems like if it survives the 29°F morning predicted for Sunday, it should start to show signs of sex shortly thereafter. I can’t imagine this thing could make it to maturity, but I’m interested to see how far it will go! Either way, I’ll keep you posted!

1pm, 72°F about 20 minutes from full sun. The temp was 40°F this morning, but it’s already seen colder than that; Sunday morning will be the test at a predicted 29°F! I saw a Texas weather YouTube video today that mentioned we’re in extreme drought conditions, so if it doesnt freeze, maybe I’ll throw down some water!

Sunday 7:30am 25°F

Monday 7:30am 30°F

I think this was pretty obvious from the beginning, but with a predicted low of 19°F next weekend and a couple freezing mornings so far, I think we’re probably done here!

Mulch the ground to keep the roots warm, maybe build a miniature easy up or tent for fun

The leaves look wet, that’s a sheet of ice on every leaf! Low in the upper teens.

Expected it to look like wilted lettuce today. Nature’s super cropping! :rofl: Low around 20°F.

Jan 27 7:09am 17°F
No more precipitation, just super low overnight temps (for the area). This can’t go on much longer!

If you want I could send you some snow to build an igloo for her lmfao. I will say though if she actually makes it to March you may have a tree on your hands… good luck!

Ya never know! :rofl::rofl:
