Outdoor grow, Arizona, Did this plant Herm

First outdoor grow, Arizona desert, hot and dry. She is shaded and gets about 3.5 hours direct sun. In the afternoon she lounges in the shade. Plant has been outside 3 months or so. Watered 2x a day, liquid feed once every 10 days or so. She was a clone from a mother, hybrid abs strain. She seems to be tolerating the heat well.
The top of plant looks great, full on veg stage, (shes not an autoflower), nice color and no burning or bugs etc…
I just started noticing these wierd seed like things on just some of the very lowest branches. Did this plant herm? I thought that only happened during flowering…which should not happen for another 2 months or so.

Are these seeds?
Thanks for looking and for your help.

I’ve honestly not seen growth like that. It almost looks like reveg, but the bud structure looks like hardcore ruderalis (autoflower). Some of the growmies will be along soon to help assess. Sorry, I wish I had more, but this has me stumped.

I forgot to mention this is a clone. I dont know if tuat maters…

Definitely looks as though the plant has a serious mutation, I had an autoflower plant do this too me and it yielded maybe 2 grams of smokable calyx’s literally no normal bud formation and just single frosty calyx’s. I would chop it and start again. If you think they are possible seeds just squeeze the calyx’s gently, you will be able to feel the seeds inside and when they are ready the calyx will brown and split open.

Interesting…I have so much to learn, but really wish i had some kind of definate answer. Do these pictures help?

I guess i am most concerned about this:
My buddy, who grows indoors, like most sane people in Arizona during the summer, has told me that this plant, if a herm, could pollinate other outdoor grows in the area. I dont want to destroy some one elses crop. That being said, I doubt anyone around me is actually growing outdoors. Can anyone share their thoughts on that?

So for everyone to better understand, when did you get the plant, clone or seed, did you have it outdoors or indoors?? It looks like it had started to flower and come back or it’s just flowering and producing random calyx’s on the stalk. Those are calyx’s not balls you would normally see on a male plant.
Anyone else have any ideas ?

These are male cannabis pollen sacks

These are female cannabis calyx’s

It is a clone from a plant i started from seed. It was indoors until established and the she went outside. She was planted outside in March. The strain is ABS, I think that stands for apple, banana, strawberry? I will look for the seed pack.

Being that you put the plants out in March did you use any supplemental lighting in order to stop the plant from flowering ?? There isn’t enough sunlight hours to have cannabis outdoors until around the end of may

My vision aint so good but looks like the plant got pollinated. Those calyx’s look like they have seeds in them. It also looks like the plant might be revegging after barely starting to flower.

Some more info. The strain is Apple Banana Shugga, from Patience Genetics. LINK Looking on this page, it does show this:
Apple Banana Shhuga R2 (Apple Banana Shhuga R1 x Apple Banana Shhuga R1). 5 Feminized Seeds per pack. Indica leaning hybrid. 60-65 Day flowering time.

I got these seeds from a friend, and until now knew nothing about them. So does this mean she is an autoflower?

This is a clone from a mother plant that I grew from seed. It was indoors under led grow lights along with a bunch of veggy starts for my garden. I put it outside in late March, and I just assumed that because it was young it would not start to flower, and as the days got longer I figured it would be ok .Big assumption for sure, but I really never thought too much about it, and I never saw anything on the plant that would indicate it started to flower. She seems so healthy and vibrant, and until recently just like like she was vegging. If it is an autoflower, shouldn’t it have started a month ago?

So…I have only done a few grows.2 years ago I did 2 plants indoors, and harvested about 7 oz and make tincture(alcohol based) with all the buds. I take all the leaves and stems and decarb in the oven, and add to a nice herbal tea I buy by the pound. I think the tea, with all the various cdb compounds and other things helps my arthritis and sleep.

So what I want to do is to let this plant continue growing and monitor it. If it is an autoflower, like it appears it may be, will it flower normally in the heat? Or is it trying to flower but the heat is stressing it out? No matter the outcome, I can always add it to a few pounds of tea and enjoy its benefits that way, right?

Should i just let it grow and see???

Thanks for all the comments and help, I really appreciate it and look forward to lerning more…

From yesterday

Pick one of those calyxes off and pull it apart… is there a tiny seed in there?

My first impression was heat stress but let me know about the calyx

I also agree with, with the single leaves… it looks like a reveg. Tell me more. Did this start to flower before putting her outside?

Also, in your first 4 pics… are the bottom 2 pics from the same plant as the first 2? They look totally different

The pictures are all the same plant. I will open up a few calyxes and take some better pics tonight. Thanks for helping figure this out!

How do you make you tincture if you dont mind sharing?

I would say get rid of that plant and start again. You said she’s only getting 3.5 hrs of solid sunlight a day and the rest is shade?.. that’s not going to work for ya. It appears she started to flower at some point due to the lack of light and going from full sun to shade that quickly. And is revegging or something. You need a better spot with full sun, and she will flower when days get shorter since the seeds you’re talking about are feminized photoperiod.

I take the trimmed buds and decarb in the oven, 240 Deg for 30-40 mins.
Then I put them in the freezer in a large glass bottle with a wide mouth
I take grain alcohol (everclear) and put it in the freezer as well
After a few hours I pour the alcholol in the jar, completely covering the herb
Close the jar and shake for 60 seconds
Fit cheesecloth over the mouth of jar, and pour out the herb and alcohol, straining into a bowl
Then I squeeze the cheesecloth to get most of the alcohol out
Next I pour the alcohol into a large funnel with a coffee filer in the bottom
This can take some time…
After the final filtering is done, I leave the tincture out and allow about 1/2 of the alcohol to evaporate. I have also heated it in a saucepan on an electric range to about 140, and put a fan blowing across it. This speeds up the process considerably.

What you end up with is a beautiful golden colored tincture, with no real taste, except the alcohol.

The tincture can be added to other drinks, foods, baked goods, or put under your tongue. Thats it…

The plant was only a month or so old when placed outside. I did not see any sign of any flowers or anything strange until recently. She has grown quite a bit in the last 3 months.

Full sun, here in Arizona, this time of year is really strong. She gets plenty of light, just not full on sun all day.

I don’t want to cut her down and start over, as it isn’t possible to start an outdoor grow in this heat. And as I said above, even if she barely produces I can still use her for an herbal tea. It wont matter if there are not a lot of flowers, or not. so basically, I have nothing to lose.

I opened up some of the calyxes and saw no little seeds. I took some additional photos and i am posting them now.

The top of the plant looks fairly normal., at least to me. It is the lower branches that have all this extra stuff going on. Check these out, all taken today.

The calynxes do have a wonderful smell, and seem to be empty of any seeds.

Thanks for all the help here folks…I really appreciate it.
