Hello everybody! I accidentally pulled up my freshly germinated seedling while moving something that fell in the pot😑 taproot came up about a quarter inch I quickly tried to softly push it back down and decided to just raise the dirt around it. I sprayed water on the soil and left it alone Pretty sure the taproot did not break. I know these plants are resilient but the plant parent in me feels I should reach out and ask to be sure. I’ve never pulled up a seedling this young on accident sure I’ve dropped some pots and things like that but they were already established and had a few nodes on them.
I would suggest water it and put a dome over it to let the root get established. 3 to 5 days should tell you is she is a survivor.
Oops, it happens. Good recovery.
I pulled this one out twice trying to remove helmet head. I also tore off the cotyledon leaves. Yours might make it.
After all the ways to loosen helmet heads this is my favorite the last few years. Demonstration is on a meyers lemon seedling, but you get the idea.
The surface tension of the water will make the drop cling to the helmet. If I do his in the morning the helmet usually pushes off that afternoon on its own.
I appreciate everyone’s reply! I’ll put the dome over it ASAP!
Even though the seed has broke ground still leave the dome correct? This will help it establish roots? I always read let them go a little while under the dome and then I’ll read something else contradicting saying first signs of germination take them off Lol what should the Rh be? 75 or so?
Yes. It will help lower the amount of water that transpires from the new leaves and allow the roots to build again. Even though the main tap may be ok you may have broken the tiny hair like roots that actually uptake water and nutrients.
They will grow back quickly.
I do it this way too. Its the best way I have found. Don’t have many helmet heads anymore thankfully.
Nice pics btw
I just did that this morning and it worked in minutes! Very good knowledge to have! I’ve used my fingers and little tools before and done more harm than good trying to remove the membrane or helmet head
