Indoor grow but having a difficult time. I’ve gone through five seeds so far and the one that has sprouted is having trouble. Check the picture please. If anyone knows what this is please let me know.
I’m also having issues with my seeds breaking soil. I used the cup method and got tap roots, put them in soil and watered lightly on the seed only. It’s been four days and neither (2x) have come through the soil. I’m using a coco coir mix with perlite. It’s a very light mixture so it shouldn’t be hard for the root to burrow. I don’t pack down the seed or soil to keep proper aeration.
Not sure what’s going on but any help would be appreciated.

I dont use rockwool any longer but friends that do say that after soaking the cube they give it a hard shake to remove the excess moisture then no more water until transplanted. And then a circle of water around the plant so the roots go looking for the moisture instead of watering at the plant

Noted. I will try that method next. Hopefully I don’t waste too many more seeds.

You could try starting them off in a starter cube rather than in the coco directly. Then put the starter cube in the coco once the seedling sprouts.
I use Royal Queen Seeds Easy Start. I soak the seeds in a glass of warm (24C) water on a heat mat for about 10 hours, and from there drop them into the starter plugs and a propagator (still on the heat mat to keep them warm). Keep an eye on the moisture of the starter cubes if using a heat mat, it will dry out the cubes shortly (I mist mine lightly with a sprayer 3 times a day), but the added warmth should help speed up germination
Thanks for responding. That’s my next experiment. I was told not to transplant autos but it seems to work for some so I’ll give it a shot.

Glad to help. I had some issues with germination in the beginning so I know how disheartening it could be.
Unfortunately I’ve never done autos, so I can’t really give advice on that best of luck though, feel free to reach out here, lots of great people that will help
Germinating seed and the first 12-14 days is the hardest part of the grow in my opinion and knock on wood I have about a 98% success rate by following a method I learned here. Seed soaked for 24-36 hours in water and a warm dark spot, after the tail I wrap in a wet paper towel and place this in a ziplock bag for 24-48 hours and generally have a 1/4-1/2” tail. I place them in a solo cup of starter medium and within 2-3 days they’ll break ground. I cover these with a clear solo cup after misting inside to create humidity. Seedlings feed themselves by absorpting the moisture from the air until the roots can take over. I remove the cup daily for fresh air and re-misting and Transplant on day 12-14 to their forever home. I use this method on photo periods and autos
