First actual grow. Just fimmed and started LST within the last couple of days. Both plants have the same soil, fertilizer and water. Am I doing something wrong with them?
They’re different plants, as you said.
Was your expectation that they’d be identical?
Yeah i got them at the same time, everything has been identical to the other plant. Just confused as to which one is right or can the same strain have different results normally. Or if it even matters, I just want to make sure they are both healthy. @KeystoneCops
Both appear under watered, but they look good.
Is there a particular reason you say that? I have been trying to figure out the best amount of water for them since the start. Didn’t want to under or over water them so I tried to meet in the middle. Lol guess I haven’t found the right amount yet. Thank you for the advice .
@CovertgrowerThe droop and wilt of the leaves, while examining the surface of the soil screams at me as under watered.
Unless it’s cold in there too? Which seems unlikely.
Ok thank you. Night temps are about 60 to 62 and day is 77 to 80. I will attempt more water and see how she goes. @Covertgrower
So, think of cultivars (strains, if you will) like pedigree dog breeds. The breed is defined by certain morphological traits (if there are other standards, I’m unaware). But if you’ve observed two dogs of the same breed, you can see that they aren’t identical in form or behavior. That’s because, even when they’re from the same litter, they aren’t genetically identical. However, we can make generalizations that compare two different breeds; All adult mastiffs will always be larger than any adult chihuahua, a retriever will tend to have a soft mouth compared to a cur, and Nova Scotia duck tolling retrievers will be more energetic than the average bulldog.
The odds that any two sibling seeds (sharing exactly the same parents) would have the same genes is much lower than 1/200,000. Two cannabis parents can produce over 225,000 genetic combinations per sex without the aid of mutagenesis. Some characteristics are easier to lock down so that the cultivar will reliably produce a particular genotype. In layman’s terms, a careful breeder might be able to get a cultivar to almost always produce purple leaves when inbred. And even when traits aren’t exact, we can estimate a range that each trait will occupy.
This is also assuming the breeder is doing their part.
In my limited experience, the best thing to do is to grow many plants, and when you find a real performer, keep it backed up as a mother plant to grow clones off of. That’s the only reliable way to get identical plants (for now).
Ok yea so mo there not looking good… you should be soaking the pot now and dont water against till there a lil heavier then they are right before you water this time
I had no idea, I appreciate the response. I started with 2 so I didn’t get in over my head. I only have a 3x3 tent for now while I build a grow room to start more. Just threw me off when they started to look completely different. @KeystoneCops
Fraternal twins perfect example same mom same age look way different
There’s no rush! And tents are always a great solution for home grows, even as you get more invested.
I have 2 plants that I just harvested. Both ILGM Jack Herer autos one was 37 or 38 inches tall the other was 25 inches tall. They both where in the same tent, lighting, nutrients. The only differences was that the taller one was in FFOF bottom 2/3’s and FFHF top 1/3. the smaller one was in FF Coco Loco. But not sure that made any difference. Like @KeystoneCops said.
At the start, I though that a 5 pack would all grow the same size identical plants, but autos do what they want, some have more indica traits, like your bushy plant, and some can have more sativa traits like pic 2 thinner leaves and taller. Some of em take to ruderalis and just become short bushes. @KeystoneCops had the lengthier answer
Thank you for the help guys. More water is what they needed. @Covertgrower @Deepsix @KeystoneCops @JDS1972 @fano_man
Looking good mate. You will always have variation between seeds within a single strain. Most plants are hybrids of sativa/ indica - but which is more dominant can change - you end up with different shapes, smell, rate of growth.
Don’t panic - just play with what the plant gives you.
When you watered was there any water that came out of the bottom?
No, I probably used maybe quarter gallon for each plant. Before they were planted I soaked the soil all the way. Should I water it until it does runs out the bottom?
