Trying to determine what is needed to ventilate my 4x2x5 tent

I’ve done a bunch of research but I’m torn on what I should do right now. I do eventually want to get a carbon filter and an in-line fan which if I’m not mistaken I would only need a 4” for my size tent. My first question is if it would be okay to just put the carbon filter inside the tent, pull air from there and blow out into my living room (with small fans also being inside the tent)? As a means to just keep air flowing through the tent and scrubbing the air so it doesn’t stink up the whole hallway of my apartment building.
My next question is would I be able to, just for right now as a quick easy temporary fix, get 2 small fans, one blowing air in, and one blowing air out?

Just my 02, but I would get a 6" for the cost. It would be good if you want to go to a bigger tent later. if you plan on staying in the 2x4. A 4" would do you fine. I used one in a 3x3 tent. Some filters are made so you can blow through them and then you could have the whole et up out side your tent. When you are in veg. You can run with out the filter all together. If you choose to use a booster fan to blow air in. Get a 6". The 4" are worthless. I know that first hand. You can get away with a booster fan in veg as well to pull air out. And just leave the bottom vents open for air intake. I only run 1 fan inside my tent for 2 plants and have not had any issues. I have a few of these around and am always using them. They are great for the price

You only need an exhaust fan, there is usually no need to have a fan blow air into the tent, a good exhaust fan will suck in enough air through a passive screened vent (which most tents have). Yes, you can have that sucking through a carbon filter in the tent and blowing elsewhere. A 4" would work , 6" can move more air quielty though, either way get an adjustable one so you can use it to dial in your temp and set airflow as needed. I really like AC Infinity exhaust fans.

I vote 6 inch fan it will give you a bigger filter which you’re going to need living in apartment complex. Bigger filter better Odor Control.

I just realized. There are not ports in the lower section of those tents any ways. I have used a fan to blow air in a vent in my 4x4. Never found a need for it in the 2x4 yet. Before you get a fan/filter combo if you go that way. I would strongly look at getting a filter you can run out side the tent. I have room issues and my tent and it is 6’ tall. If I remember right. You are not running QB either. You can almost grow into the lights with them.

@kellydans, that’s what I was waiting for, you and Hellraiser covered the odor control…I agree 6" is the way

Flange size doesn’t matter as much as cfm. You can have 4" with high cfm, or 6" with low cfm. Your space is 40 cubic feet. So you just need a fan that will exchange that once per minute after you derate for static loads.

Yea I’m still trying to get my hands on the hlg 260xl. Gonna have to make some big financial decisions here lol

@Hellraiser is this the right one?

That one you’re paying extra for temp/humidity settings that turn the fan on/off at the thresholds you set, The s6 model is the same fan but much cheaper just without the temp/humidity settings. I went for the S6 to save some money and I don’t want/need that temp/humidity thing.

Much appreciated! You’re truly legendary my friend!

With the 6 inch fan it’s going to let you run your fan at a lower speed which is going to be much quieter than a 4 inch.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V318DMC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I will have the switch today and I have my fan hooked to the temp side of this plug https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072JWF69R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 they were all at sale price total cost $110. The plug has 2 outlets but they can be alternated between a heating/cooling setting for temps and a humidifier/dehumidifier setting for humidity. I have to alternate between light and dark for temps settings now due to the area I live ins weather being extremely warm in the late afternoon in the room I grow in, but I think the setup works nice with/for my needs.

I’ll cast another vote for AC Infinity. I own a bunch of them and am really happy with them. They cost a little more, but they are more efficient than what other manufacturers put out.

I’d go for a 6". I put a 4" in a 2x4 I put up once in the while and it struggles to maintain a negative pressure even in the small tent.

The T6 and S6 are excellent fans by ac infinity. You won’t regret buying. The temp and rh controller is worth it in my eyes. Every now and then my rh slips out of my desired zone and the fan ramps up to full or what ever to bring it back down. If you have good lung room climate and running led for lights the 4inch works in smaller tents but i’d suggest going bigger like the 6inch to be safe. I have a t6, t4 and s4 and love them.

Just got my infinity 6", been testing for a week. Very quiet compared the the 4" vivosun. With the vivosun on full blast for intake air and the infinity at setting 3 for top exhust I’m getting g lots of negative pressure. QUESTION: other than “odor” any other reason for negative pressure???

That’s all it’s for, to keep the odors from seeping out.

Thanks. Thought that was all. Made some improvements to air flow and circulation for next grow. A couple oscillating 6" pole fans as well as the infinity and using the 4" for forced intake.
