Transition from indoor to outdoor

I have a clone that’s been raised indoors under an 18/6 LS, (on from 7pm to 1pm the next day and off 1pm to 7pm). It will be going to an outdoor grower. Is there a certain process to readjusting her to a new light schedule?

the process is called “hardening off.” It’s like a transition period for your plant to adjust to the outdoor environment. This is important because plants grown indoors are used to stable conditions like consistent temperature and light. When you move them outside right away, the sudden change in temperature, wind, and sunlight can shock them. To harden off a plant, you gradually expose it to outdoor conditions over a week or two. Start by placing the plant outside in a sheltered spot for a few hours a day, then gradually increase the time and exposure to sunlight and wind. This helps the plant develop thicker cell walls and adjust to the outdoor climate, making it more resilient and less likely to suffer from stress or damage when fully planted outside.

I’ve skipped it before during rainy/cloudy week with no problems. If your plant took to it well I wouldn’t worry. It’s just good practice.

@Low described the transition perfectly. I transplanted into a larger container, which i assume is your plan. Then i drove a few stakes around the base and used plant wire to stabilize the plant to help with wind. You should have a plan for shelter in case theres a thunderstorm. You never mentioned how old the clone was…mine was from seed and 6 weeks old when i moved it outside so it was large enough i wasnt too worried about it adjusting to the elements. I also tied down the 4 tallest branches( it was topped weeks before going outside) because i want a shorter wider plant, but thats just preference. Good luck.

Glad I found this thread! I have several photo (24) inside my carport which is not totally closed in, so everything is exposed to temp but I’m 7 days in and under 2 100 watt led in happy frog. I plan on putting 6 or 7 in the ground but most will go in 10 gall bags and placed outside.

I just took them to 18/6 on the lights
Would it be advised to start taking them outside daily ? And if so how long at a time to start etc.? Appreciate all the info!!

Take them outdoors to partial sun to shade starting at a couple hours for the first day and continually do that every day increasing the time my 30 minutes to an hour or so every day for a week just to be sure. Make sure your light cycle somewhat matches the sun outdoors.

Beautiful babies! ADK_Guerrilla hit the nail on the head, great advice, especially with making sure the light sched matches the outdoor.

They loved this today for a couple hours . The carport they are inside of has two open bay doors so the temp is outside temp etc.
-we have a little over 14 hrs off daylight here. Of course they’ll probably be in sunlight from about 11am - till 7ish pm
Should I work my light schedule down to 14 on 10 off before i take them out ?

No don’t do that, 11-7 is direct light but days are longer than that, so they still get more light, my outdoors don’t leave tent until 15+ hrs of daylight, all they need is sunlight direct or indirect, anything less than 15 hrs and you risk them hitting flower stage then reveg later on some strains maybe more some less, I use 15+ for min.

Nice !! In looking on where to place them I’ve found a spot and I will probably place the 3 gal into some 10’s 20’s and 30 gal condo style
Question is … that area has some low lying grassy growth.
-is it advisable to put my 10 20 and 30’s into grassy areas without digging anything up ?
-have some other areas with really nice soil but not as secluded and they would be in afternoon sunlight @Spiney_norman
