Hi I have never grew before now . But my mom has been for the past couple years in a green house . It’s great pot , every person I know that has tried it , now prefer it to the very pretty expensive stuff they were getting before. So iv been intrigued because if I could make it work then it would save me a fortune cause I smoke more than any person I know personally. So iv been reading on here and everything seems so complicated, but when I asked my mom what she did, she said she puts them in pellet then peat pot and then 5 gallon buckets in the green house with a simple soil perlite mix , no fans or ventilators or anything, so it got me to thinking I could try . So I have one seedling that’s starting to get talk and lanky fast , and I germinated in a jiffy pellet then into a 3 in jiffy pot , and now have put it in 2-1/2 gallon lil bucket with holes in the bottom and a top and garden soil mix with perlite and it seems to be doing good. Here’s the kicker, iv got it in my lil 7x7 poorly built wood and vinyl shed with the metal roof took off for sunlight , I’ll add pics of shed and plant , and I apologize before hand, it is a pretty ghetto setup so don’t pick on me to bad. But can I make this lil shack work and what is the necessary essentials I need to make this grow and produce good bud , like can I let it sit in the sun all day ? Do I need to put it in shade some , and the best way to water and feed and so I go to a five gallon bucket or could I go right into the ground inside my shed , it’s not to tall so it will get plenty of light during the day I think . Am I completely hopeless or can I do it ? This if my text go and my funds were scares, but I am now gainfully employed again and plan on investing more money next year . I live in the north east part of Nc so the weather is decent. Sorry this is so long, I hope someone will take me serious and give me a hand lol
Brother i admire your will power and determination. Can you make this work? Quite possibly… will you be satisfied with the results? Only youll be able to judge.
As a seedling, sunlight and shade mix. I see alot of tree cover. Is your opening running north to south or east to west? And peat pod you have in there try to remove. Those dont biodegrade like they say they do and cannabis prefers drier soil. As far as nutrients go, get some worm castings and top dress along with organic fertilizer mix thats a near a 5-2-4 for veg… youre fine in that size pot. Dont over water… by the way, im diggin the grocery getter.
That’s that new four-wheel drive super deluxe model.
Can totally work but cannabis loves lots of light and does best in direct sunlight as much as possible, never needing shade.
It will grow but if not alot of direct sunlight most of the day it will be lanky and possibly not yield alot.
Could still ne good smoke though so do whatvyou can to gibe it as much direct sunlight as possible
Yeah thats the most expensive ride I use today , every time I use one of those it cost me an arm and a leg lol . Thanks for the advice, I appreciate the help , i germinated 4 seeds just for giggles and only got one to sprout and now iv grown extremely attached to the girl and long for her survival . . The peat pot not being as biodegradable as they say, what if I poked several holes in and all Around it before I put the seedling in , because I was worried that could be the case , should I still take it out the peat or with the holes is ok ?
That last post is replying to Chitty Chitty banging,
I don’t know how to comment on an post
If you want to reply to a specific persons comment, notice the “rounded arrow” in the bottom right corner of each comment?
Click that and it replys to that person.
Or type @ and the name like @ Bosswilli without the space of course and it shows as @Bosswilli like any other “tag”.
You can also ckick a comment like you want to “copy and paste” something, then click “quote” and that shows as above (I quoted your comment)
@Bosswilli i would remove as much as youbcan without disturbingvthe seediling. Around the sides as much as you can. You want as much drainage as you can get and the peat pods retain moisture and will cause rootrot
Ok awesome thank you so much I’m at Walmart now , because the soil and potting mix is cheap , can I the put out of the container and remove most of the pot and put it in a new bigger container with a new soil mix ? And the she sun goes over from the west and acting the top and sides I can remove panels of the vinyl from the side to where it could also shine threw the side .
Is 4-3-6 ok ? And if so what type of soil should I mix it with, I think I’ll grab these 3 with a bag of garden soil ? Is this ok of a mix
They don’t have any garden soil only potting mix , what type of soil do I mix with the moss and fert and perlite? Thanks so much, this is a huge help I’m super excited
Honestly bro, youll have better luck at a rural king or coop… if youre wanting an easy way to grow and not have to spend alot down the road, visit your coop or rural king tomorrow… they have a way better selection. You can wait a few weeks while shes at the stage until you transplant so you can get your stuff in order. Dont impulse buy.
Ok thanks for the tip , I’ll hold out , im on the east coast and where I’m at we have neither of those places , there is a plant nursery and a lows , but I might could order from a royal and have it shipped, but do I have that much time to wait ? Can you give me a basic mix recipe that will work? Now I’m invested I don’t want to do it half ass , so I’ll get what you recommend please .
A good basic potting soil with extra perlite for drainage, a 5 or 10 gal fabric pot, and a good dry amendmemt will get you going. If you have amazon, look for Coast of Maine stonington blend plant food. Thats what i use. Youll mix a cup a food to 10 gal of soil, then in 30 days come back and give her another cup. Then, when she starts to preflower, we will switch up amendments and go with a buds n bloom amendment which is low in nitrogen and has more P&K thats needed for flower. Also to give the microbes a boost, mix in a tablespoon of unsulphured molasses to you water once every two weeks also. You can also get worm castings amd top dress every 30 days also.
Sounds like you’ve got a good mentor right at your finger tips? Why not do what she does?
I promise I’m not being harsh, just brutally honest. I’ve been where you’re at and know exactly what it took to move forward.
The first spot I picked was mainly for stealth. The plants don’t care, they need sun. I was literally moving my plants three times a day to get the most sun. They need more light than what they get in that shed. Go out there every hour and check how much direct sun they’re in. 10+ hours minimum. I did less and my plants suffered from it.
Wet the little pot and gently tear it off. Wet will do less damage. You don’t have to remove the whole thing, if roots are growing into it, leave it, just remove what’s free of roots. If roots are in the bottom, just gently break the pot apart but don’t pull it away which breaks the roots. You just need to free up paths to the soil below.
I tell my wife all the time… “let your fingers do the walking” (old TV commercial about using the yellow pages.) It means look up Lowes, tractor supply, the local nursery. And locate the soil you want before you spend gas money. Buying something because that’s all they have is a bad move.
Do a search on here for " happy frog ", you can get most of the way or possibly all the way through a grow without fertilizer. Read your plants to know. Search on here for " reading plants " or " what are my plants telling me " or " what do my plants need " Some of these will have charts which give visuals of how to read your plants. If your not familiar with amending soils, something like happy frog is much simpler. Although, there are some great resources here, like chitty, who can walk you through it, if you choose to go that route. BTW, I left spaces between the quotation marks to make it easier to copy and paste to the search bar.
As mentioned, sounds like your mom may be a good resource. Maybe ask her if she has any compost, or if you have some of your own you can mix it with happy frog, or any soil you decide to use.
If you use tap water fill the biggest open top container you have and let it sit for 24 hours or more to evaporate the chlorine. The number one issue new folks have is OVER watering. Don’t freak out if the top looks dry, stick your finger into the soil and inch or so and see if it’s still damp. In fact, the less direct sun it’s in the longer it will take to dry out.
Good light, decent soil, correct watering, and your golden.
Youtube videos about transplanting tomatoes, watch MULTIPLE videos.
Search on here and read until you have a headache, take and ibuprofen and read some more.
If things go sideways, don’t sweat it to bad, there’s a lot of great folks here to guide you. The more you learn the more satisfying this becomes.
I’ve lost plants, felt like a gut punch at the time, looking back… dang I was goofy. Just keep trying.
Welcome aboard
As an after thought, Happy Frog can be a little hot for seedlings. This is why I mentioned mixing with compost.
Sorry I should have included that.
Happy frog is perfect for seedlings…ocean forest is a little hot.
Thanks…
If possible what would you think if @Bosswilli replaced most if not all of the roof metal, with green house plastic. Like this:
If you can Willi, For the sake of stealth, remove as much of the metal as you can and put just enough around the edges to hide the plastic. Make sure theres no staples or nails to tear the plastic. Staple it down tight to keep wind from blowing it around and rip it.
If you stay in the shed, raise the plant as high as you can to maximize time in the sun.
Another idea would be to build a small hoop house out of PVC and grow some tomatoes too. Then hang small red Christmas ornaments on the girls for camo. The more garden stuff you do, the less attention it attracts.
Something like this:
Hi how she goin, shade, that’s blasphemy, how could you! Yes to removing a panel or more and boosting up the plant.
Would you be so lucky you only need block the view from one side, north of the plant. I’m assuming it’s hidden anyway
