Toooo much emphasis on flush?

So I’m kinda new here, but not necessarily “new”. Anyway, when reading through different journals and threads I see a couple of recurring questions/problems. Rather than have to read the same handful of members repeat themselves in pretty much every thread, I thought I’d throw a hypothetical question out there for everyone to see without having to go through several long threads.

In my experience (limited) there’s not a huge difference in smoke between a 7 and 14 day flush. There is however a ton of bud swell and resin production the last couple of weeks before harvest. Based on this, would you more experienced members agree that if you were gonna make a mistake on timing your flush, you would want it to be starting late rather than early? I figure that even if you’re stone set on the 14 day flush, you can just harvest with a higher % of amber trichs right?

Like I said, limited experience on my end. I just feel like I would much rather start late than early. Yet the majority seem to be doing the opposite. Hopefully you more experienced members can weigh in on this. I could be a minority.

The idea behind flushing is to speed up curing by leaving less chemicals in the plant. This is a theory that has not physically been proved but again the supposed benefit is helping the flowers cure faster by leaving less nutrients in the plant.

In my opinion flushing does not speed up curing and if hurried can have a negative impact on the taste of buds. Also flushing is also to help rinse any nutrients left in the plant and help provide a smoother smoke over all

Again my opinion it doesn’t help with smoother taste nor does it help speed up curing the only way buds are to harsh is if there is an excess or toxic amount of nutrients left in the plant

Thanks @Majiktoker!

Without taking an opinion on whether to flush or not, you agree that in any case you definitely don’t want to begin a flushing process to early? Nobody wants to smoke chemicals, obviously. But when cured properly is starving your plant for 2 or more weeks necessary?

It seems that more and more nutrient schedules are tapering off, or providing a ripening dosage. To me, that supports the theory behind flushing. I just have a hard time starving the potential by completely removing nutrients for that long before harvest.

Flushing is a personal choice

Personally I have not bothered to flush ever after reading @Aquaponic_Dumme post to flush or not to flush and can’t tell any difference at all in the final product

I agree @Oldstoner. My purpose wasn’t to tell people not to flush though. As Majiktoker said, it’s a personal preference.

By your post, I’m assuming that you ran some sort of a flush prior? Could you elaborate on any difference in yeild since you gave up flushing? Again my purpose was not to talk people into or out of flushing prior to harvest. But for those who choose to flush, to err on the side of starting later rather than sooner.

@dbrn32 actually I am a fairly new grower I just read a post on here from one of the mentors about flushing not really making a difference. So what I did was take 2 white widow in ffof soil and fed fox farm liquid trio but followed the flush schedule for 1 and not the other through the grow and used final flush 2 weeks before harvest . It didn’t seem to affect the yield and the taste and smoothness of the smoke was virtually identical. The only way to know what you prefer is to play with it a experiment good luck
