Too much light? Mixed autoflower and photo

Hello!
I am running 2 lights in my 5’ x 5’ x 7’ tent. 1 Mars Hydro 2000w led, 1 Mars Hydro 1000w led.

I generally keep them about 2 and a half - 3 feet away from the plants.

Is this too much light? Not enough? I have had issues with stunting. I am trying to eliminate variables.

Thats 300w in a 5x5. Not enough. Need 300 more. That is not hitting edge to edge. For that I go 900. 5x5 is a stepchild to light makers it seems. Most seem to concentrate on 4x4 footprint. 36" with that power is too high. 24 better. As long as the footprint covers. I dont think it will. Just my opinion.

Btw, 5x5 is my perpetual flower tent.

It is actually a 2000w and a 1000w, so 3000w. Am I incorrect or am I missing a key conversion with LED?
Thank you for the clarification!

True watt? If you have 3000 true draw worth of light in there you can take 1 out. Usually 1000w claims are 100w draw. Marketing.

I will verify! I believe it puts off 2000w and 1000w respectively, but I will make sure! I originally purchased the 2000w to replace the 1000w and then in my last grow I used both, but my tent was FULL!

Just check what the driver puts out. Will be listed on label.

I am going to check that when I get home!

Storm is correct.
Yes, Inflating numbers makes cheap lights attractive.
Cheap lights cost more in time and wasted electricity.
Kil-A-Watt meter measures electrical load.

Best to you growing and learning.

The highest wattage Mars Hydro puts out is 1200. The TSW 1000 and 2000 are actually 100 and 200 watts.

Well, it is time to save and invest in a 1000w HPS light and ballast. You live you learn. I will run both lights until I can afford a higher quality light and another exhaust fan to run to the light! Going old school

Do you have any favorite hps? I am looking at these, and a vented hood.

I’m straight LED, sorry. I think @merlin44 has HPS experience. I could be wrong though. Let me see if a couple others may be able throw in some info too…

Sorry bout that, can’t remember who or where I’ve seen growing using HPS. I know I see them every other day here but cannot think of who.

No apology needed. We are all just doing our best to help fellow growers. :vulcan_salute: :man_mage:

Luckily there are a LOT of resources available for HPS grow tips. I just like this forum a lot, so I ask here first!
Thanks guys (and gals)(or whatever)

I’m way out of what is currently available for hps bulbs. Last I knew the eye hortilux super hps was most popular outside of gavita de’s.

Still what I use. Getting harder to find replacement bulbs now tho.

I looked up those bulbs! You can get them on amazon for $61 a piece. Looks like the ballast is what gets you. The cheapest I have been able to find the Eye Hortilux Gold Standard Ballast is 239.99 and they just go up from there. Yield Lab has lights that put out about 10% less light, but you can use a new ballast with a booster to achieve 15% more light. So basically, I am learning that I can max a light out for a year, pay less for it, and get more light with that specific combination. Any thoughts?
