Too many seeds gonna do a SOG

So over the last few years ive bought wayyyy too many seeds, haha. So ive decided to go against most all common practices i have started 5 plants of 4 different strains GSCE, purple kush, maui wowie, and cherry pie. im going to keep them in small pots in a 2¹/² x 5 tent under a hlg 260 i also have another 100w light, forget the brand, also 2 of the hlg UV lights. Their final home will be an approx 1/2 gallon container. They were started in a 12oz solo cup.

Obviously its not the best situation but its kind of an experiment. Topping and training 20 plants would be very time consuming and im not sure i want to embark on that journey as my time is spread thin as it is. I could top them and let them naturally grow 2 tops? 4 tops? Is it even worth it to top? Or just let them go single cola? They were just transplanted yesturday into the final container and at this point they range from 4 to 6 inches tall i was thinking about letting them get to about 12 inches then switching the lights.
Ive searched for similar grows but have found nothing that was this small of a container. Any insight would be appreciated.

I apologize for the dirty tent im gonna hit it with a vacuum here soon

I hope you have enough grow space to flower all those plants.

They look good.

As wrong as it may be all 20 are going to stay in the tent pictured, unless they get topped they will be swithched to 12hrs by next weekend.

Looks like you have some gardening shortly… happy growing  :bat:

I agree…some serious training will be in order.

In a 2x4 it is 8" by 8" for each of the 20 plants. Might be a fun experiment, but your not going to get anything out of it.

Please tag me. Love to follow your quest.

Isn’t this what they basically did in The Solo Cup Challenge?

Interesting to see. I think a single cola with side branches trimmed off or you will be overrun.

12 inches tall also seems like a lot before flip that could mean 20 plants 24 inches tall.

Its like a solo cup challange but i have 4 to 5 cups worth of soil. In the challange people got anywhere from 1/4oz to 2zips if i could get a 1/2 a plant that would be amazing honestly a zip a plant is not really expected nor needed.

I never followed it. I think the goal was to grow the biggest plant possible in such a small amount of soil. :+1:

While browsing the forums i see everyone talking about huge amounts of stretch but for what ever reason out of the 4 or 5 grows ive done with the hlg i experience alost zero stretch, its kinda aggravating really…

This “experiment” comes from what my father did a few times when he grew in the 80’s he had a 4x8 table that he packed like im doing with small containers with small plants he said he topped to get 4 colas and ended up with 4 ¼oz colas in a very short veg and this was under florescent shop lights with random bag seed.

My experience so far has shown that i end up with about the same yield if i top or not its either one big cola or a few that dont bulk up as much. So im not set on topping/training. Im also still working bugs out of my system as im fairly new so im far from pulling massive yields.

Im also not to concerned about maximizing yield per seed at this point because ive accumulated a pretty large stock pile. 10+10 deals add up quick when you only use 4 per grow then want to try something else. I also made about 100 purple kush seeds, not to mention i found 2 amazing purple k cultivars that im currently reveging that i plan to pull clones off of.

I guess this is a test to see what happens if i were to take 20 clones off my PK and pack them tight…

Go man go! Are you transplanting from the solos on the right to the bigger sized pots (big gulps?) on the left? I think you’re fine with the plan, by the way. Not much on a per plant basis, but you’re rocking 20 of them.

Yea that pic was half way through transplant, 12oz cups to butter tubs

Doing big gulps could work good since they are significantly taller.

Damn, but you must love you some biscuits. That’s a lot of margarine you’ve gone through.

I did 12 clones in 6" nursery pots. I pruned them to one colas. They were a mix of northern lights and AK-47. They were in a 2x2 frame.

Later I did 6 purple haze clones in 1 gallon pots in the same 2x2 frame. I will be harvesting some GDP clones soon to do another small SOG. It will depend on the structure of the clones as to how I will grow them. I am hoping to do 4 in 3 gallon pots pruned to a quadline. Either way, I will fun will have fun with them.
This is the six PH clones. They were each pruned to 3 or 4 colas.
