Hello everyone, I’m a new grower and getting ready to harvest my first plant… Could you all give me suggestions on drying and curing the buds. I am growing my plants outside and do not have a grow room. I’m just a very small, inexperienced grower. Nothing fancy. Thank you!
I cut the whole plant in 1 at stalk. Trim off all big fan leaves only leave rest and hang from a spot for days til it feels crispy dry outside and a bit of moisture inside still. Cut off buds trim up nice and jar woth rh meters. Afyer 12 to 24 hrs of being in jar sealed check rh if over 62% open jars and leave yo get air for a while. Spread out buds on a tray ect if needed. Once rh holds between 58 and 62% u can leave in jats and open once a week for gas exchanges then once a month for a bit til gone. Hope this makes sense. Make sure to not let it stay in jars with high rh and make sure its a cool dark place to dry and cure.
Dry in a room with good airflow where humidity is ~60% and temps in the low 70s. It takes about 10 days to dry flower.
Jar flower (Ball jars work great) after drying and monitor for the same temp and humidity conditions to cure them, but be sure to burp the jar(s) at least once a day. Curing generally takes about 2 weeks.
I wouldn’t dry in jars. You risk mold.
I cut several branches off, cut off fan leaves and then I wash my outdoor grows. I cup of hydrogen peroxide to 5 gallon of water. Hang them upside down In dark room until you can snap a twig. Cut off sugar leaves, save for teas, etc., trim up the buds, put in ball mason jars.
Thank you! I appreciate you suggestions. I am reading not to let them dry too much. Just so many different ways try to understand a universal simple way to do this if there is. I know over time it will get easier. Thank you
Evedyone has their own little knack for it. Mine is most dry hanging then jar and watch jars once a stable numbers i put in bags and leave them now. But always watch jars if u do jar them like me. This is how i found to keep the smells and taste of the buds around. If i do it different it always seems to dry too mich and lose taste and smell. Its just a habit now after harvest to consistently check on jars til they r bagged lol
Awesome thank you! I’m taking what everyone is suggesting and will use a little bit from everyone . Just looking for a simple way to do this. As a very new grower! I will end up storing the buds in mason jars with rubber gasket seals. Thank you for your help!
Wow! I did not know about those. I live in a state in the southwest with very low humidity. Is that a problem?
I would get the Boveda. 62% rh is the recommended level for a proper cure.
WELCOME TO THE FORUM! Enjoy!
They work very well I put 2 or 3 in a quart jar
Thank you. So you need to raise the humidity if it’s too low?
Yes get a decent humidifier for your dry room it makes a difference to have a slow long dry. Put a fan blowing against a wall it will rotate the air without drying . Many of us has switched from jars to grove bags I reccomend you picking up a bunch of 1/2 lb bags ( they’re like 1.50 each and you can typically fit a whole plants worth in each) and you never need to burp ( which believe me saves you a LOT of work) and dont ever use humidity packs they kinda ruin Terps your better off using a pack of cheap rh meters and rehydrated with saved pot leaves or orange rind( until you get to 61-63%)
Welcome to the community. I hang them up and I check to see
by breaking branches. If they snap really easy I get them in a jar and burp them daily for 2 weeks.
The main colas take longer to dry. I cure aka burp jars up to 1
month. Burping is just open the mason jar up to 1 hour per day.
After I put Boveda 62% humidity packs in each jar.
Thank you so much . I just ordered some humidity packs with meters
Recomend reading the thread here on “Grove Bags” . Visit there web site, pay attention to their use of a “moisture meter” to determine proper dryness. Also get a wifi microscope for determining when to harvest. These changes in my harvesting, drying and curing led to the best quality weed I’ve grown. This is a great way for someone without a lot of experience to harvest correctly, at least it was for me.
Kinda like my dad’s constantly repeating "right tool for the right job! Used to piss me off till I understood what he ment…
Question if you don’t mind. Just put these in a mason jar with a RH meter and I’m reading 70% any suggestions?
What’s your room humidity if its below 64% then spread the buds out on a tray for between a few hours to a day( depending how low it is) and then rear and measure
@Audiofreak my dad always said that too buddy! Now I understand but back then I didn’t. Good saying
