Timing of harvest

Hey gang,
My gdp is getting pretty close! Hairs are around 50% redish brown and right at 8 weeks into flower. So im thinking a week more or less.
Trying to make final determination by tricomes but the lil suckers are hard to see! I can see them. Just not clearly enough to tell if they are cloudy or clear. Only seeing a very small amount of ambers.
I have a 30x loop and a digital microscope.
I see better with the loop, but mag is not enough to make the call. The microscope is hard to use or focus. And while the microscope shows plenty big, the colors are not trustworthy.
One micro that looks great is $1200 and thats not in the budget this week lol. So question is what are you guys successfully using?

Tips for using the scope. Move the plant away from any fans (or turn them off). Then stabilize the scope. A mic stand works well, but I went to Jerry Rigs Engineering, Inc, and threw some crap together to make a stand:

And now I get pics like this:

And this is my scope:

Good luck!

Hey @MidwestGuy how is the focusing on that one. You use it on a phone or computer? Is there any software control of the scope?

@Newt ,
The scope i have is similar to that. I have it mounted to a mic stand. Problems im having are…focus. The dial is stiffer than I’d like. And the pressure from my hand makes it very hard to focus. Mic stands are not the easiest for micro adjustment. The other issue is with all the light bouncing around, depending on the angle(s) of light , the tricomes get light washed and all look milky. I have to catch the light just right to see accurately. I see something similar on your pic. Or yours are mostly milky.
Ideally if the focus was software based or had a remote focus… now im just dreamin

Yeah, I’m almost 100% cloudy in that pic. Here’s a tip that may help.

Clear trichs look like they are made of glass.
Cloudy trichs look more like plastic
And amber looks… well amber.

Good luck!

Be sure that you are evaluating trichomes on flower and not sugar leaves. Trichomes on sugar leaves will turn amber before those on flower.
