I grew two WW and two Sour Diesel plants, all autos, all under the same conditions, all fed the same, harvested the same, etc…
My SD have that beautiful aroma we love
My WW don’t really smell like much, maybe like hay although I’m not even sure if that’s accurate
It was my first grow, and I do think I let the plants dry too fast and probably too long, but at the end of the day, my SD plants went through the exact same yet they still smell great.
Any thoughts as to what some likely culprits might be?
The buzz is great so at the end of the day I’m not all that upset, but the smell of good weed might be one of my favorites(the smell of fresh ground coffee takes first place!)
I have everything in jars with the little auto regulator humidity(62%) things in each mason jar. I figured that’s just how I’ll store everything as well. So I’ll essentially just let it cure until it’s all smoked
I’m fond of the grove bags, my work schedule kills all chances of burping mason jars and they hold the RH perfectly at 60-62%. I’ve re-used the bags 3 times on some and have several harvest that’s been in the bags for over a year
There’s a good chance I’ll be using them on the next harvest as I’ve heard a lot of good things about those bags. Fortunately my schedule happened to be really light through this first grow.
I’m the same way with coffee too, my growmie! And yeah, I get a little bent when the cure don’t/can’t bring back the original aromas…
Shread one of those beautiful buds down to powder and put it back in with the others. The interior still has terpines to offer up, and this might help for bag appeal.
Inabilities to SLOW dry of at least 7 days at 60-65f, and humidity ABOVE 60 but BELOW 75rh (yeah, i just said that. Lol) is where it went afoul. We all fight this final journey of the grow, and some have put huge investments in machines that hold that perfect climate… But you’ll find a way…or die trying (sorry, Couldn’t resist)
Did the WW have any smell while growing? If not the drying and curing will not help with the final smell or taste. I had some Black Widow that grew giant buds, but had very little or no smell or taste. But it hit you like a truck.
I put a couple dehydrated blueberries in a couple ounces in Grove Bags. After a month more of cure time, the taste and smell was improved.
@New2GrowNot2Weed sometimes you’ll get that strain that just doesn’t have that pungent smell. I had a purple kush like that, then after about 3 months after curing I opened the jar and it had a super strong lemon smell. Almost like lemon pledge.
Thanks, I didn’t have good control of the RH during the drying, need to have a better set up this go round. I’m going to have to try to see if I smell anything after I grind some, and if I do I’ll try that method!!
Hard to say for sure because I grew it with the SD plants, but my entire place smelled like weed during the flowering lol, and if I recall correctly, the WW did smell when I first cut it down, I think
@New2GrowNot2Weed, Next time that you have flowers growing. Give one of the buds a very gentle squeeze with your thumb and forefinger, and then give your fingers a smell. This will let you know if there is any smell there.
With that said, you really should keep your fingers off of your buds as much as possible. I know it is hard not to squeeze on them to check their density. I still get the trill of a disobedient child when I give one of them a squeeze.
I don’t know… It was my first grow, but one of the two WW plants started to flower much earlier than my other plants, and by the time I harvested all four plants that one WW practically looked like it was drying out while still in the soil. My other WW plant looked just like the two SDs. I dried for a week, but my humidity was definitely too low. I forget the exact range, and I bought a little humidifier that didn’t do much to help.
I have never done WW, but I have done about 5 BWs now. There is a big difference in genetics from seed to seed in the BW. One plant had the strongest smell of any plant that I have had in a few years, and a couple of the others had little to no smell.
