I had already been posting and chatting a bit over in the Lights & Ventilation category.
I’m growing 2 AK-47 Auto plants.
I just put the germinated seeds in the soil.
If you have been following me over at L & V I am going to get a second iPlantop 1000w LED Grow Light in the next couple of days. I would think that 2000W (360W at the wall) will be plenty for 2 plants.
Not intending to have a Lamborghini system. I don’t want the Chevette version either. Maybe a Lincoln Town Car version would suit me well.
@AAA Thank you. @Nicky I have a system I came up with that I have never seen before. I’m sure it has been done. Hell, it could be common. But I have never seen it. I’m using 5 gal fabric pots. I lined the bottom of the pots with 3-4 inches of clay pebbles. Then I cut out the bottom of a large Folgers coffee can and set it in the center and filled around the coffee can with clay pebbles. Then I filled the coffee can with soil. I have heavily restricted small pumps dripping the nutrient solution into the coffee cans via halo rings. and the 5 gal pots are raised above the bottom of the totes they are in by 3 inches on planter stands. Here is a picture of what it looks like. The idea is that the soil will give the plants something viable to root in and hopefully I wont have to support the plants externally while allowing the nutrient solution the recycle through the setup.
Yea @Nicky I thought so. I run a small news organization and we operate a really small merchandise business so my time is limited even though we work from home. I haven’t really researched on horticulture websites to see if it has been done or not but the theory seems solid to me as long as I keep a close eye on everything. Last night I used some clothes pins to further restrict the flow of nutrient solution because I think my soil was a bit wet. In fact I have another seed germinating now because one of the two plants I don’t think is going to sprout. When I originally tested my system which is shown by the photo I had the same issue with the same pot. I think it was too wet so I cut back on the flow and we will see what happens.
You should put it on a larger time gap, we as growers want to very mildly stress the plant to go through a dry and flood phase as it helps stretch roots and cannabis like airey soil it doesn’t like constantly wet or damp soil
Welcome aboard @Southerngal! @Nicky I currently have the pumps running 24-7. Would you recommend me run them with the light cycle or what type of schedule would you recommend? I know this varies greatly with how much it being dripped into the soil. That I can regulate as needed.
I would recommend you run them on a timer, and experiment with how long it takes the soil to dry out. That could be a couple hours or 2 days depending on Soo many variables.
You want a wet and dry cycle, like dry dry not just not wet.
@Nicky wow I never knew that. Thank you very much! Looks like I’ll be getting another timer as soon as I can. I plan to automate the system as much as possible as soon as I can. I’m on a mission to get as ideal of conditions as I can.
