Switching to coco next grow

That’s what I’ve been using since 2nd grow. First was ffof then I tried cocoloco but almost killed my plant so mixed the cocoloco with the ffof and got thru the grow. Then after reading and looking at every1s results from the canna coco and jacks I made the jump there and won’t switch back. It does require a bit more watering from time to time but it is a total difference in every way. Smell growth rate just everything about the coco seems so much better. Especially the grow room smells. There is not dirty soil smells at all. When I water or feed I smell the nutrients in the mix over everything til flower then all we smell is bud lol. Like super strong bud. First grow I notice no smells outside my house. Now it is getting to be totally notivible from 3 houses down lol across the street even further with the wind. I vent into my crawl space above ceiling so all smell go up out roof vents but man can u smell them down low walking

Yes, im definitely looking forward to next grow. I never heard of coco 6 months ago. When I did i thought it was strictly something for hydroponics only, like clay pebbles and stuff. The more I learn… I kick myself in the ass for not switching sooner lol

Coco and jacks is simple and easy. Definitely worth the switch.

As for autopots I now have 2 of the 4 autopot xl.

I got one with plastic pots and one with cloth pots.

I personally like the cloth pots the best. (Just make sure you have the pot socks) as the roots can clog the lines. I don’t like the valve that came with them so I changed one of my setups to some od push connects. I refill my reservoir every 4 days or so. I highly recommend them as I’m a little lazy and like the ability to walk in and out without having to do more than look at them most days.

it says they’ve increased sizes of valves, connections etc. I wish I had back the $$ i wasted up front from being stupid and buying stuff I didn’t need

So do the containers have holes for the roots to hang in the reservoir or do the pots sit in it. Also not sure what the air dome does… just provide oxygen?

Thanks for replying :slightly_smiling_face:

Will I need to add microbes like recharge or something?

If in a auto pot I don’t believe recharge can go into systems like that as it will clog lines and pumps.

You can, most would say yes. I’m not really sure how recharge would behave in your system. I use tribus mostly, I suspect that would be fine in auto system. If you like recharge specifically and want to use extra caution, just go through and top feed it once per week maybe?

Like everything else, had never heard of it , someone recommended i buy it for soil. I now see there are several options and types. Live and learn. I paid i think $25 for the recharge, if I need it, I’d like to use that before buying more. If it’s a problem clogging, :man_shrugging: I guess I’ll deal with that then… I was hoping I wouldn’t need it lol

Here’s another option other than canna that I’ve had recommended Screenshot_20211031-084928_Samsung Internet

The price is good

Look into Mr fulvic I believe it hydroponic friendly so it should be resoivor friendly too

Is that a microbial thing like recharge? I couldn’t tell if it’s that or a soil ammendment fertilizer

Any chance you can run a hose out the window of the room you’re growing in and connect it to an outside faucet? I’ve been contemplating getting water into my room that way because hauling it down the hallway is annoying enough.

At least you’ll have a nice system to help ease the pain.

Oh that’s a catchy one, never heard it. undeniably and factually incorrect, but still catchy.

Start using it now just because you can. Once a week when you water. I started just throwing it in on a whim here and there. I wholly believe it’s part of what has helped keep my microbe system alive in my RDWC set up. I also use Tribus (got free samples mailed to me and likely will have them forever, they were decently sized) and Fish Sh!t, which is Tribus’s cheaper cousin that is $7 for a sample bottle that has also lasted me an entire grow.

Tribus and Fish Sh!t are both substantially less disgusting in terms of residue.

I use the canna coco bricks. Good stuff. It is buffered and clean. I still add calmag when I hydrate the brick along with a full dose of Jacks. Canna packaging makes hydrating the brick super easy. It comes in a heavy plastic bag that you can use. Also nice for storing the extra if need be.
Vermiculite does retain more water than perlite. In that sense it is somewhat counterproductive to coco. One reason to use coco is “frequent fertigation” (see cocoforcannabis). That is feed often with lots of runoff. Vermiculate also is a source of silica. If one is trying to grow naturally / organic then vermiculite might make sense. but when using synthetic fertilizers just use silica. I use and like Silica Boost. It is a liquid and is hassle free when mixing Jack’s.
Autopots are nice and do grow nice plants. They are not trouble free though. This is one of three spring bag setups I am using right now.

I designed the frames to include a tray for a reason. Yesterday I had to clean the valves and float tray. This morning I had a inch of nutrient mix in the tray. Without the tray, who knows where it would go.
As mentioned, I also use Jack’s. When I first started using it I continued to use calmag. Dbrn32 and Myfriend410 had a similar discussion with me about calmag & jacks. I no longer use calmag other than for additional buffering when hydrating bricks.

Nice. I have also came out to a tent full of nutes in the floor. I could not like that post enough!

For sure, I’ve been using it in jack’s every couple weeks or when I’m having issues. It always makes them look better by the next day. I wish I understood it better to choose from all the options and know better when to use it

I sure don’t understand it but I’ll give you my 2 cents about it anyway.

Recharge has some sugars in it to feed beneficial bacteria. It also contains those microbes/beneficial bacterias. The microbes are critical to plant growth because they feed on old dead organic matter. This means expended nutrients, stuff in the soil your plant can’t use, and any potentially harmful bacteria living in or around the root structure. The good microbes feed off the bad stuff your plant can’t use and produce stuff the plants can use. The sugars in recharge help the microbes take hold. We feed once every 7-10 days to reintroduce the sugars and the microbes, because the first ones may die off as they consume everything that was in the root structure and have no sources of food.

I like Recharge for the reason that it contains the backup sugars to help keep the bacteria alive. I like Fish Sh!t for the reason that it seems to have a higher concentration of microbes, so as long as I have sugars in my water already (molasses), it works almost just like recharge.

I definitely worry about water spills. I have them in tubs (usually) sometimes I just pull the out and water them one at a time on a table. Im going to make frames when I switch to photos that are individually apart to hold scrog and still be able to move

I found a 4x4’ ×3" black plastic tray, but it’s $100… yikes

is this something from your fish tank or do you buy it? The reason I ask is my daughter, in ag class, created a little hydroponic vegetable and herb garden over a living fish tank as its only source of nutrients. Doubt it would work for weed i told her, but it’s interesting

I knew that it contained both food and new bacteria. I think thats why it was recommended. Do you use blackstrap molasses? I was always gonna in soil, but never bought. That wouldn’t help in coco would it?

Oops. This was supposed to be part of first post   Damn technology

Oh it absolutely works for weed. My wife wants a betta fish, and I told her “hey don’t you think he’d be happiest in a really big tank?” So I can have the water from changes of course.

You buy it but it’s essentially fish tank extract. Lol.

I use this:

$20 at my hydro store. Will last forever. I bet it would be fine in coco but I don’t know that for a fact

Edit: I just read the label. Says it’s fine for coco.
