The only way I would buy Grove bags is if I didn’t have access to Sweet decades. The reason I say this all my Grove bags from two years ago the ziplocs have 90% falling off
The only bag I use now is sweet decades and I’ve never had a single issue with ziplocs. About every 3 months I will check the humidity in the sweet decade bags and normally have to put an orange peel in the bag to bring up the humidity.
I haven’t tried Kure Bags. I bought like 100 piece case of sweet decades so I don’t see me needing to buy any for a good long time
I use both grove and sweet decades side by side. They seem to be the same in performance. I now I primarily go for sweet decades, they always have deals. I’d imagine Kure is the same, though I haven’t tried. Only buy grove when they have sales that make sense. I buy in 1/2lb and lb bags a couple times a year. I did try the oz bags by both for when I donate.
Keeping any of the cure bags, and its contents in “good condition” will be aided big time by surrounding environment.
I use Grove Bags and have had the issue of the zippers pulling away from the bag. I now open them carefully from one of the ends. It seems worse on the larger bags, I had a couple break off opening from middle. No issues with them not holding humidity.
As far as holding humidity they’re great. The fact that they’ve not addressed the ziplock issue pulling away surprises me with the amount of money they make.
Sweet decade has a lot better window options and overall the bag is much more sturdier and properly constructed in my opinion.
My next grow isn’t until October. At that point I’m going to do all mason jar cure test. The purpose of the test is to see if the mason jars obtain the weeds smell both cure bags (sweet decades and Grove bags) I’ve always lost the weeds smell after a month or two.
I probably should read up an educate myself a little better on terrapins and how to preserve them etc. I can make big plants and I can make them fire I just can’t make them have a smell
I keep mine in the coldest place in the house. I have some in groves going after 4 years. Still has aroma, and not crazy dry. However when I’ve had bags in warmer drier areas the smell has gone away until they grind, then there is smell. I think honestly the best route would be initial cure in the bags to regulate humidity and then straight to the jar for long term. I would do this, but I’m terrible with glass and they all end up breaking.
I think the bags would do wonderfully long term if they had a designated refrigerator.
Unfortunately, in an effort to keep my stash properly secluded and a way from my grandkids I have to store it on the third floor which is an attic that my son turned in to an apartment for me in the summer it gets extremely hot and in the winter heat rises it stays hot. So I can see your point on keeping everything stored in cooler places. Maybe I’ll work on that one.
I was thinking that doing a short-term stabilization like you say in the cure bags and going into jars afterwards as well would make a very nice long-term storage cure. I’ve got a ton of mason jars.
I’ve got a couple of strands that’s been storing/curing since late 2022 and the stuff is still fire. I was told that weed would only last for approximately one to one and a half years. I can see it depreciating a little pungency but not going bad because this stuff is fire.
The attic grows are good starting in October I can control my environment 100% perfectly all the way through the grow (temperature and humidity everything) but in the summer the attic gets about 120° in the room and an average of 90 in the tent. I’ll never do that again
Following along, picking up good pointers.
Mine don’t usually last more than 4 months tops, but I do need to figure out a better storage. @low you mentioned a designated fridge, what temps would be ideal?
Oh yeah, our stuff that was stored warmer will get you lit, no doubt. Just terps seem to kinda disappear to a degree. If you’re chasing that flavor, or freshness you would definitely want to pursue cold storage options. Easier said, I know. lol. Repercussions of the hobby. You can also freeze weed for a real long term but that means no taking some out here and there. So multiple small vac bags after initial cure and stabilizing. Larger bags would introduce moisture upon re seal. However, if you were to let the sealed bag sit at room temp for about an hour or until you hit room temp in the bag before digging in/pulling what’s needed, you could reseal.
Temps mean everything for smell/thc degradation. 70+ degrees will kill it significantly over a period of time.
@Mntmannw
Typical refrigerator temps would prolong the bags, however if the bags aren’t heat sealed you’d have to consider humidity. Colder usually means lower humidity. So that would be a learning curve. Not something I have tried myself, because a spare freezer or fridge hasn’t been much of an option. But I am getting a fridge soon for this. freezing would lock in any and all stabilized moisture.
yeah, I believe so. hotter grows are usually “louder” than colder grows. Leads me to believe terps are indeed evaporating. Colder temps/lower humidity in flower make sense. Certain terpenes degrade faster at higher temps, and retention of smell and flavor can be lost at higher temperatures. Whether or not your in cure or in flower. ~70° in flower is a sweet spot for retention and growth.
The problem is environmental control, idk about you but it’s nearly impossible during the summer months to pull that premium stuff, appearance- sure it can look gorgeous but seems to lose some flavor. Our best crops come out in the winter season, even if we over dry them.
Luckily for me freezer and fridge space is not an issue. I have 4 freezers and 1 fridge in my shop kitchen for my jerky, wife has 4 fridges beer/cooler in the house.
I have a commercial vacuum sealer I use for my jerky, and a heat sealer I use for my freeze dryer so heat sealing isn’t an issue.
I could refrigerate or freeze the bags just not sure which would be best.
I’ve also heard you can use a freeze dryer to dry/ cure cannabis but never went there due to having a Cannatrol
.by looking at these posts, I see where 65-75 seems ideal for flower stage, I’ve always been around mid 80’s, so guess I need to figure out lowering it some.
Thanks for all the input here. @Low@Lostgirl
