How do hermies present? I have a plant I suspect may be a hermie, as it has both balls with hairs (potentially pollen sacs) AND balls that are clearly female. They appear on one of my mains (from the first topping.) Said branch possesses organs appearing to be both sexes. There are only a handful of organs that appear to be male.
Picture please.
I can’t say with certainty.
@dbrn32, thoughts?
Looks like a swollen calyx to me.
Picture 2 is a female flower. Picture 1 and 3 might be male. I’m leaning male, but can’t be certain.
It’s what I am worried about. I started out with 4 plants from bag seed. I culled 2 males earlier this week. I’d hate to have to cull another and be left with one plant, but if it’s a male, then I must.
Are you growing other plants anywhere else in your house right now?
Just some toddlers in my veg tent.
Right on. The staminate (pollen) flowers I’ve personally seen were like a 5 segment ball, and the segmentation became more pronounced until they split open like a lily. I’d watch that super closely.
You never know. Those hermaphrodite plants could have flavors and effects we haven’t seen in decades. Even if they self-seed, it could be a fun experiment to grow them all the way out. And you’re already a skilled hand at hash making.
I get your point, but I’ve got too much invested to risk having a pollen producer in my grow room. I’ve got 2 younger plants that will go in the flowering tent as soon as I harvest these 2 (or 1.) I’d rather avoid it all together.
They look kinda like a bishop hat.
Cut them open and if there is bananas inside she a hermie. If it’s just hairs it’s a calyx . Hope I’m wrong but they look like balls…
Unfortunately bag seed is most likely the result of a self pollinated plant. It will pass on these hermie prone genetics to the seeds they make . I messed around with bag seed and ended up with all hermies. I finished the grow and grew out the seeds it made and again all hermies. Always presented right around the 20th day of flower. How far along are you into flower?
Sad news. I found a banana that had developed among the offenders. I’ve chopped it down.
That Sux man.
16 days. No evidence of hermie on the sole remaining plant.
I started with bag seed as a learning experience. I have accomplished my goal.
You are probably right. I’ll have to watch the remaining plant very closely.
I have a feminized blue mystic and a feminized durban poison that will be ready to take to flower in 7 to 8 weeks. I’ve learned a bunch and will be applying my lessons learned to these girls.
I took the same path you did. Grow out some free seeds to get the experience. It helps with the next grow. I know seeds are costly , but good genetics will save you frustration.
