Appreciate ya @robert365 it’s been a while my friend! So since you aren’t hauling anymore, do you still get tested? Back to partaking and starting a grow again soon? Sure hope so!
So yesterday I noticed something “different” and wondered if any other cloners have noticed or had this happen. Pics first, see if you can spot it.
First plant, a cutting off a branch of the regular VB
Second pic, the original top of the regular VB
Then the original top of the polyploid VB “Gimpy”
And a side branch cutting of Gimpy
It seems there is a lot more growth on the tops rather than the side cut. I’m not concerned about the light green (yet) as it’s been drizzly the last few, supposed to get a stretch of nice weather now so they will darken up hopefully.
Cherry tomato plants are starting to grow quickly. Tripled in size in a week since they’ve been transplanted.
And all the garden plants together! The bus stop is 15 feet from the farthest plant, hope folks don’t smell them in September!
Hope everyone has a great week! Look up tonight if the skies are clear, might be able to see the Northern Lights again (cloudy here last night ).
The way I understand it is that an apical dominant shoots (usually tops) will have more auxins that will help the roots building in a new clone…
From Google AI:
when I did clones… the top was reserved for the next mother plant…
Thanks Dan knew there had to be something! This is the first time I’ve really kept track of the original tops and been able to do a direct comparison. I almost thought they were starting to flower since we haven’t had the best weather here and they’ve been out since we hit around the 14-1/2 hours/day thing late April, almost looked like a slight flower/reveg happening (but I don’t think so).
@Retiredoldguy if I were to keep a mother plant that would be the candidate! I flower all my plants out, don’t keep a designated “mother”, just clone out anything I cut when I shape/thin out my plants!
I only did for a while to keep a mentor’s hydro grow going with White Widow clones… I learned about hydro and got free smoke from him for doing it…
Well, last night I decided to take the ripe branches off 2 tent ladies. Two hours later, both plants are hanging. Found a couple spots of budrot, probably 1/4 oz worth if dried, so not bad for the high humidity I’ve been suffering.
Today I’ll do some cleanup and get ready to move the dozen cellar dwellers up and move the clone station under the cellar light. And shovel. I have 2-1/2 yards of topsoil to move from driveway to back yard, need to bury my sandy gravelly shit-lawn with several inches of good dirt and scatter new seed. That might take me the rest of the week to do, I hate manual labour!
It’s another “smoke another” day folks! Enjoy it!
Harvest congratulations Sir Spud!
And good catch on that bud rot… :
Thanks Kap’t! Yeah, 3 or 4 spots spots on the plant I didn’t thin out early, too much leaf matter in the corner of the tent with less airflow and light in there.
Broke a few small buds off when stripping the fans off them, they should dry in a couple days and give me a nice 3 joint sample!
Congrats @Spudgunner best to chop then let rot take it…
Appreciate ya @Bentstick was thinking of doing a partial harvest, but once I got going…
There just wouldn’t have been much left, crappy larfy stuff that would stay crappy larfy stuff even after 2 more weeks, so took it all. New tenants move into the tent tomorrow!
Busy day today. Finished shoveling 3 yards of topsoil into the back yard and got it pretty level. Trying to get rid of the gravel lawn that’s been there for years, it’ll look good when done. And then mowed the rest of the lawn before it gets outta hand and bogs the mower down.
Still had time so cleaned out the tent. Took out the autopots and air pump, bleached the walls and floor, lowered the light a bit, and brought up the cellar dwellers. Light’s out right now, so pics this evening.
But with the cellar dwellers getting an upgrade, that means the clones can get a better environment too!
Since I don’t have to have the narrow plastic cover light holder, could spread them out a bit more. Still no roots, but they are still alive!
And a couple shots of the drying space in the cellar, doing what it’s supposed to be doing. Nice slow dry, hoping for 6 or 7 days.
Same 2 plants, just a different angle.
Hope everyone is having a happy hump day, if not, have a good hump tonite!
Edit Looking at the first pic, I should probably lower that light a foot or so!
Remembered to take the phone out to take some pics! Only forgot to post them yesterday…these are from 2 nights ago.
They fit better in the tent that they do in the cellar.
Already lollipopped
Much better light for them, and still can stretch a couple feet if needed…but hoping they are done the stretch now.
Little hedgehogs on all of them.
Going to keep them in the one gallons and feeding them MegaCrop1 and the PK Booster.
As a comparison, 2 plants just harvested in autopots with the air pump running had the room around 90% humidity, these 12 going wet/dry cycles has the room at about 70%. Same weather outside.
It’s Fryday, make sure you indulge!
grow is looking good Spudgunner…
Thanks ROG, I should get something from them. Considering most of them and others were supposed to go outside somewhere, better something rather than nothing! Only $40 power and nutes to flower them out in the tent, even 6oz is worth it!
Looking forward to popping my VB, but I gotta wait on 4 flowering autos and a commitment to four White Truffle seedlings first. Thanks for turning me on to the source. Still have a handful of auto seeds, but they are secondary to my return to photos, and to see if my 1968 memory of my first smoke on Okinawa matches these landrace seeds. And some AK47, too.
Today I should buck the buds off the branches and start sweating them. I remembered last night that I had a tray upstairs of buds I broke off during harvest, and being in a drier room, well, they were dry! Got 3 joints and tested it last night! Not bad for uncured fresh weed! Got a nice buzz after the first 2 (I always smoke 2 to start tho) and the 3rd just before bed. Was feeling laid back and pain free, so bonus for that! I’ll enjoy these 2 plants and the 2 dozen in the hopper for sure!
Oh @Deadhead I’m terrible at describing tastes and scents, as in I can’t discern them! Except heavy skunks, everything else is more of a feel, not a flavour. No blueberry, lemon, maybe some citrus, but otherwise tastes like weed. And as my father-in-law used to say “There’s no such thing as a bad Scotch, some are just better than others”. I’m like that with weed (altho you can have bad weed just as there are some bad Scotches out there).
Regarding scotch, one of my favorites was one of the least expensive: Passport.
Never was a weed flavor connoisseur. I defined it as either smooth or raspy/harsh, with the latter always typical of a kilo of Mexican that was standard fare in the 60s and 70s. Pure landrace varieties like Panama Red, Acapulco Gold, Thai, Columbian, and very rarely sinsemilla of any type were exceptions then because virtually everything was cultivated south of the border outdoors in large plots. Sinsemilla in particular was very labor intensive.
Since switching almost exclusively to vaping dried and cured homegrown, flavor is front and center in a good way, particularly with a POTV and a mini bubbler. It even takes the harshness of trim waste caused by the minced sugar leaves. Poorly cured dope tastes like alfalfa. It’s fixable by resuming a curing/burping process so you don’t smell like a dairy cow. I am curious about your perception of the VB buzz. I have some seeds, but I’m not popping anything until I wrap up the white truffle grow.
Love my little dry herb vape too, perfect for taking Sheba down the trails where I can run into people. Nice flavours at lower temos to start, then turn it up a bit to finish the session off.
So 2-1/2 hours to get this…
…the Trim Bin floweth over! Still not totally dried yet, will put it in a plastic pail and sweat it for a few then layout, repeat until good to jar. Another day or so, my bet. Then let the belching begin!
Since they are still a bit soft, I lay them out in beer flats. Dried like this for years, a layer of buds in each tray, trays are free!
Stack 'em up, 6 high plus an empty on top. I’ve stacked them 10 or 12 high before, great way to dry weed in a small footprint. I put these on top of the mini fridge upstairs. Sheba is keeping a watch on them.
Shuffle them around a bit in the trays and keep an eye on them now, I’ll seal them tonight to sweat and back in the trays again tomorrow morn.
Hope everyone had a great day! Go Oilers!
