To start off im using fox farm happy frog soil in a 11 gallon pot. Ive been using fox farm trio for nutes as directed per label/ feeding schedule provided by fox farm. The strain is carmel cream (BlueBlack, Maple Leaf Indica and White Rhino), from royal queen seed. Im aware its not the best for outdoors but im getting rid of left overseeds from year. So i got a little aggressive in LST and the plants were not as hydrated as they should have been while trying to bend one of the main branches and it split right at the fork where she was topped, so in panic i ised some twine/string and wrapped it around the break . The repair worked and she recovered but…short term memory loss i forgot it was there and she tried to grow over the string. I think from the wound and not being properly fixed fire ants have found their way into the rot WHAT DO I DO ??? I have been using crop defender 3 mixed strong to try and get rid of the pest but it has not worked . I need some help from the experienced growmies !!!
A day later after pulling the string out of the branch the entire branch is wilted looks like this ! Is there something i can do ? Make it a clone ? Or cut my losses and cut it off ?
It’s hard to say if it will make it. The ants in the wound, mold on branch, and it’s weeping so I’d guess that branch is a goner. You could go higher up and find some clean growth to take a clone off from and then cut the decay back. I’d put something antibacterial/fungal on the wound like aloe or cinnamon. The cinnamon would drive away the ants that’s are spreading infection.
Ill do that now ! And as far as the clone im just wanting to save something off of it maybe ill try cutting the decay off and see whats healthy enough to use
There are several side branches coming off of that that are worthy of cloning. Get them cut off and into water to rehydrate. By tomorrow they should be standing and ready to clone.
This is a 10.00 sample that makes a gallon. Plenty.
Then maintain the spray every 3-4 days until the fungus and bugs give up. This stuff is great.
Then just concentrate on what is left and make clones.
Usable to harvest day.
@Storm I have already used that product with zero success, i love the product it works great at keeping pests ,only when mixed at a higher concentration than whats on the bottle.
@Budbrother So here is a little update i clipped off the wilting branch and stuck it in ph balanced water and literally 2 drops of hydrogen peroxide( ill explain why i thought it needed it in a second) , and it perked up like a pecker on a friday night date !!! i also clipped some of my wifes aloe vera plant and piled a ton of it to the main stem after cutting as much of the decay off of the health stem with sterile shears used only for cannabis cultivation. I used the left over skin of the aloe vera plant to cover the stem where it was cut to protect it and sprinkled some cinnamon on top and around the cut . After cutting the branch off I inspected the hollow center inside of the stem ( in the picture) it looks like the plant it self was spreading the infection.
The peroxide is gonna kill the mold off but then it’s gonna start dissolving some of the organic material at the pith. By now it’s done its job and I’d replace with just water. With hollow stems, you’re gonna have some issues, so I’d cut that clone down to size. If you cut and still seeing black, then go higher.
Hope all works out for you.In my experience the string caused this .The plant didn’t have any give to heal itself.Ive had multiple injuries with plants over the years.When it happens again (and it will no matter how careful you are.Ask me how I know.)
In the past I would dress the split with an anti fungal then wrap loosely with a cloth tape(gauze) for a week then remove it. The split will heal over and look like bark. Sometimes I would add a support above the split to aid in the fix. These plants bounce back more times than not.Well I mean photos NOT AUTOS.
Just my .02 cents.There folks way more experienced than me here.But this has worked for me many more times than I care to remember.We never stop learning.
Trial by fire is usually how i end up learning im drawing ( in autocad) a support type of splint for when this happens again because like you said it will happen no matter how careful you are , ill try to remember to share the 3d print file if anyone is interested. Im gonna pull it out of the water and put it in dirt tomorrow ill post pictures
So a little update ,I stepped out of my comfort zone and mixed some crop defender 3 very strong ,and i soaked the top soil ,after a few days for this treatment the ants started to leave. A side note ,this is when i found a new bug ( buffalo treehopper nymph??)
After reading about these little guys the ants started to make sense. I moved the plants to a new area of the yard while treating the area where the plants were. A week after getting the plants away from the ants we were hit by tropical storm Edouard , at the time i didnt think it was going to be that bad of a storm but it actually got stronger after it made landfall, i didnt move the plants and the high winds just about totally destroyed the plants . I was able to save the main cola and so.e side branches but most of the plant is ruined
So for the pest problem the ants are gone and as of right now the reason the ants were there has not been determined ( root aphids, buffalo tree hopper, or just a perfect micro ecosystem they didnt want to leave ) after the plant is done flowering i will pull it and look at the root system and find out what was really going on . I will post some pictures later of what is left after the storm.

Yes i agree outdoor cultivation is definitely brutal when it comes to weather . Do you have any pointers?
