Soil watering method?

Hey folks, new grower here. I was wondering, what is the method yall use for watering your plants? Flood - drought method? It was heavily impressed upon me when I started the dangers of over watering. I have never watered to runoff. They get about 3 gal/week. Fabric pots make watering to runoff damn near impossible.
My question is, what method do yall use? Can anyone tell me some drawbacks to my current method? Just trying to learn, thanks.

I use 5 gallon pots and put about a gallon in every other day so your 3 gal/week is close to what I’m doing. Haven’t ever had an issue except they get a bit dry when it’s really hot.

I use a pressurized pump sprayer, that hold 2 gallons.
I gently flood the top and verify soil is absorbing water and nutrients and not running off the sides. I water everything until I see 1/2 cup of run off.

That’s about what I’m doing. I’m also in 5 gal fabric pots I water every 3 days with 1 gal and I don’t get really any runoff.

That’s a good idea. No more milk jugs.I believe I will adopt this method. Thanks!

3 gal fabric

From what I understand, flushing is required with chemical nutes because of salt buildup. Not really an issue with organics, from what I’ve heard. I don’t want to have to flush or risk hurting the soil biome by flushing out too much good stuff. Then again, I’m a noob and probably don’t know what I’m talking about. I guess I wanted to confirm I’m not harming my plants or correct if there’s a way.

I made a watering system with a small pump and a 5 gal bucket that works great, will put some pics up when I get home tonight

I water slow with a watering can, usually till I get runoff, so I know where I stand with ppm and ph. How much and when depends on how much the plant is taking in

That’s awesome dude. I was thinking of a similar idea for an atti

sorry, attic grow setup. I’d like to see how you pulled it off. I don’t want to haul buckets.

I’m using 7gal fabric pots, 2gal in gives me about 1/4 gal runoff. Do you put perlite in your soil??

Yessir. I’ve got equal parts HF & OF with plenty of perlite and worm castings.

That’s cool dude! Like a little water fountain pump. I could rig that up pretty easily

Same here, In 5 gal fabric pots. 1 gal every 3 days or so. I don’t get any run off either…hmmm. I’ll watch this post.

I’d still mix/adjust ph in jugs and then use a sharpie to mark the jugs as to what the ph, ppm and contents (Nutes) are inside, them add them to the sprayer…just my opinion to keep the mix consistent. The sprayer is a great idea and I may adopt it.
