Runoff PH/Watering

Doing my first grow and I tested my runoff ph and it was at 7.3. Realized my ph controller was off and this has been corrected. Is there a way to fix the soil or just leave it since future waterings will be correct moving forward?

Second question, how much water do you guys know to give them? I have a saturation meter but I it varies so widley at different depths in my 5 gallon pot. Is there a magic number to water in mL or is it intuition/experience?

If in soil it depends on what stage the plant is in seedlings and early veg I water lightly in a ring around the outside side of the canopy to promote root growth. When the Roots are established I water when the pot feels light I pick it up then I water till run off how much and how often depends on plants size and pot size for example my autos I’m growing now in 3 gallon pots about 2 weeks from harvest are using 1 gallon every 3 days.

@jtanner53 Thats Some solid information @dirtydave gave you. It’s much easier to fix an under watered problem than an over.

I use 5 gallon farbic pots when plants get to preflower i go ahead and feed them 1.5 gallons the rest of the way out. Usually ever 3rd day. Whether its just a cal mag day or full nutes day.

Dont know if correct? But once in veg i water untill i get just under 20% runoff. Usung about 3 gals to get 20% runoff.every 3/4 days. Using soil and 7 gal pots.

@Audiofreak yes sir! Typically the only reason you water to runoff is to rid salt, build ups from synthetic fertilizers, synthetic fertilizers use a carrier (salt). You must remove this for the health of the plant. That’s why, in my honest opinion, I feel Coco is the best medium for synthetic fertilizers, you can saturate Coco multiple times a day, without risk of overwatering. some people even swear it’s the only way to grow in coco is to feed multiple times per day. Have you ever tried? I’m interested in your input.
Side note, you like martin Logan Speakers? Haha

Im a dyed in the wool ADS fan. As far as under/over watering goes i watch plant to start showing signs of stress from lack of water, then water or feed and wait till she’s shows stress again so i know how much water she is using and go from there. Sereral weeks later o hold off and watch again and see if her needs are changing and adjust as needed.

The plants are in week two of veg not that huge. And I have heard time and time again to never over water, I just personally feel that since theres no “number” of gallons or mL to feed them it can leave room for error. I honestly have no idea if I am over watering or underwatering at this point, especially since a saturation meter is making it more confusing due to not knowing where the roots are and depth level of a 5 gallon pot.

Over watering is worse imho too little water is easily fixed, just water and problem solved! I dont use much water until after transplant (im there now with current grow) 1 water will be a gal of ph water and watch. Run off (for me) is not relevant at this point. I will increase water amount as she grows and fills out up to about 3 gals. Start feeding when TDS gets to 800/1000.

Be aware your girl may want more or less. Your girl in my tent might want more or less as well, the environment will be different between our tents ( type of medium, water itself, lights etc. All effect her,so even the same plant may have different needs.

With my 5gal fabric bags its easy to check if soil is wet or dry by just touching the outside of bags. I watered with a solo cup about 500 ml until about 3 weeks then started giving 1liter every 3 days, around week 4 was my first runoff to test ph and was about 3 liters, from weeks 5-6 3 liters every 3 day, week 7 -8 noticing the bigger they get the more water they will need , now in week 9 first week of flower and im now noticing every 2 days she will need about 4 liters, hope this helps

If your using one of those 2 prong probes to check the soil they are pretty much useless. The best way is pick up the bag and feel the weight once you get too know the difference between dry and wet it’s easy. I mostly grow organic so I don’t water to 20% run off unless I start seeing a problem and have to check my numbers.

That is easy to misunderstand. In most cases it really means watering too often rather than too much at once especially in fabric planters.
Cannabis does not like “wet feet” meaning stays wet constantly. It does best in wet/dry cycles.

Same here. :100:

Agree 100%

That is how I do it but can be problematic with larger containers.

Also problematic if using a net

I had the opposite problem, last year. I simply flushed with the correct PH until runoff was close to 6.4. My plants loved it. I’m sure your plants will be fine if you keep watering / fertilizing with the PH you want.

Literally just finishing flushing, will keep an eye out on the babies over the next few days. Hopefully they will love the correct ph moving forward.

I might have to switch to fabric after this first grow. I am using plastic 5 gallon pots. I can see how just simply touching the fabric could be an easy measurment.
