Hey y’all!
My first grow will be starting this week, and I am pumped! This is basically a trial-run, with a grab bag of seeds from some friends. Started germinating tonight (paper towel), and I will have my full setup (indoor 4x2 tent, LED lights, air filtration, fans) completed hopefully this week. I have the bare minimum that I will need to start. Air system/filter, good quality light, nutes, and other small stuff on the way currently.
HOWEVER. Soil-wise, leftover from growing veggies, all I currently have is a basic indoor potting mix by Miracle-Gro ----
-Nitrogen: 0.25% (0.14% slow release)
-Phosphate: 0.13% (0.04% slow release)
-Potash: 0.19% (0.09% slow release)
(Says “Feeds up to 6 Months”…which makes me hella nervous)
My question is if this will kill/harm my seedlings/plants in general? I know nothing about starting nutes, but I will be able to go to the grow store for soil this coming week (maybe tomorrow morning, but Idk how busy town will be on Black Friday…)
I’ve read not to use things like Miracle Gro, but in one of the soil blogs there was a pic of 2 bags of miracle-gro that they WERE using?
So…can I start in it until I get some organic soil & perlite and transfer to forever pots? Or is this a hell no?
Any and all advice is appreciated. I have been doing nothing but researching since it became legal here on election day! Give me the knowledge!
Avoid miracle grow. The slow release stuff isn’t very compatible with marijuana seedlings and it can harm them from nutrient burn. If you are in a pinch, you could lay it out and remove as many of the little nutrient balls that are in the soil. They look like tiny brown marbles.
I would try to pick up something specific for seedlings.
Also, didn’t see it on your list, but pick up a pH and ppm meter, an pH up and down - they are mission critical. Here’s a list of things I have for my setup:
Miracle grow does have an organic potting mix. Don’t use the non organic version. Most of the time it will hurt or kill seedlings. I use depleted soil with worm castings added for seedlings. I use to buy Fox Farms Light Warrior because it’s made for seed starting.
Alright, I think I’ll have a couple days before I will need to be planting. So, I’ll try to find something else!
The hardest thing is that ALL of the garden centers here are basically closed because it’s heading into winter. I wanted to order it online, but it was like $30, plus another $30 for shipping 2 little bags
I’ll check out the grow store tomorrow!
Yep. It’s expensive. I mix my own soil, but I use Fox Farms Ocean Forest as a base and it ain’t cheap. Cheaper than losing $eeds. I’ve bought the organic miracle grow potting soil at Lowe’s. It’s in a tan bag. I think it’s called raised bed soil.
I know what the other’s have told you about MG soil. You got the wrong stuff my friend.
They do have a potting soil for seedlings but it’s not the 6 month S**% ok
The potting soil that I use every time is MG for seedlings. On the back you will see this N= 0.06 P=0.02 K=0.04
Then i’ll buy Worm Castings and if they have i’ll buy some Bat Guano ( MEXICAN ONLY ) To mix in the potting soil.
And so here is the result every time.
I am totally okay with going to get other soil, I figured I’d have to anyway. Im just a detailed and specific person, so when I was watching this video, and saw this, I was hopeful/confused. Hahaha.
You have to zoom in the pic to read it but it also says “feeds up to 6 months.” Sooooo. hahahha.
Im currently getting ready to go to the grow store!
