So I figured why not, what could go wrong, right?

So I dropped four beans to germinate in a glass of tap water and put them in the dark closet… Two days later I had four beans with cute tails.
Commenced to putting them in their nursery bags and cut their domes to use, knocked one over and off course spilled into the 3 gallon smart pot underneath that I was cooking soil in for their final homes, lost that seed. Imagine that… Not me, no, never would I screw up. Fed up with my day already, had some jiffy discs laying around for some flower seeds I started last year so I used it. Lo and behold, that one popped up first. It popped UP yesterday, and today, it’s also popping DOWN. I guess it’s normal, not really sure. Anyway. Here’s a pic. Should I go ahead and throw it in it’s 3 ga. Smart pot or throw some dirt around the root or just leave it alone?

PS… Is there any problem with using those jiffy pellets? Cause they really jump started that sucker… None of the other three have come up!

So I soak my jiffy pods and place the seed inside it.
I love these things
3 days ago and it’s popping up already.
I did not soak seed in water i just pushed it in the pod that was soaked in clonex solution.

That’s what I did… Because I had only germinated those four and had planned on growing four so when I lost the one…I just poured some water on one of those and dropped that little bean in the there and Viola…I kinda like germinating them this way better. So they do ok throughout the rest of the grow when you use this method? And what do I do about that root growing out the bottom already?

I would place it in a solo cup or something soon as roots stick out of it.
From my experience the pods and rockwool cubes to, are great for germination but soon as roots poke out, there job is done, its time to pot them.
You could absolutely place it into its permanent home if you confident in your watering skills.
Some worry and go up a little at a time so up to you.

Thanks again for all the words of advice and offers of help. I put the little sprout with the big tail(root) in a dixie cup… Maybe if it weather here would stop going from literally 82 one day and snowing the next and freeze warnings the last two nights… My outside flowers and plants need some love too but they also need mother nature to get back on her meds lol.
I’ve decided I’m going to try these… Probably 2 or 3 inside and the other/s out. I’ll get to the journal eventually. I kinda like just writing it down like the good old days but I use my Samsung note and stylus.
Sorry… I’m pretty sure Shirley stopped by a minute ago… She was tiny but sure makes a lot a noise lmao

In my limited experience, I take germinated seeds, place into cup (or pod) and see who lives.
Not always happy with POD planted seeds (plant before 1/4 inch tail, NOT ADVISED, i think).
If they live, I am thrilled, and usually place cup into cut gallon jug.(when 5-7 inch plant is obtained)

Normally, I don’t take seedling straight into final size (4-7 desired, because 10-gal weighs too much for moving). In the near future, I will try two raised, stationary, drip pan provided, 10-gal bags in my tent (48x48x80).

Shown is a picture, as I experiment myself.
Clone DOB 3-3-2021
Arrived 3-24,
Replanted 3/31 into 2gal planter for trial test of new mixed soils

Those look interesting as hell. So… you just put the seed in them , some water and that’s all?
Where do I get these at lol?

Do you just put the pod in the container ? You don’t have to remove the cloth around them?
Clonex solution?

I soaked them in clonex solution phed at 5.8 and popped the seeds in.
They are regular oh jiffy pods available everywhere i believe.
I did put them in a propagation dome 77°f and 85ish RH.

I think I paid like $3 at lowes maybe, it wasn’t much. I am super stoked if this trend continues.
It could just be a one off :man_shrugging:

Thanks a ton bro! I’m gonna head to depot in the morning to find that kit you have. Where do I get the clonex solution?

I ordered mine but any hydro shop would have it or an equivalent. I honestly don’t know if it really makes a difference but it can’t hurt.
Im thinking the environment is just A1 inside the tiny little warm peatmoss pouch. And from what I’ve seen the roots grow right though the little sack with np.

Do you put those pods in the container they came in? Looks like it would work as a dome type scenario lol.
I just discovered a hydro shop 10 minutes from my house. I’m heading there tomorrow. I’ll mention the clonex so they steer me in the right direction. Thanks again my friend for the help and info🤙

Yeah it did come with a tray and dome. I just used my big one. It fits perfect on the heat mat and has a very high dome.
I’m pretty sure the digital controlled heat mat has alot to do with it if you’re planning to try it. The stable wet warm environment has to be the key i imagine.

As previously stated by me and others, seedling pods have advantages and DIS-ADVANTAGES.
Today I found a 3-seedling (1.5 inch tall w/ 2 inches roots extending from bottom of pod.
UNABLE to separate the three plants (STUCK/GROWING IN POD).
3 seeded pod was the result of being impatient for seeds to sprout.
I saw swelling, white peeking thru crack in shells, and NOTHING for days.
SO I super seeded the pod.
What the luck. I guess it will be a 3-some for now.

Id find some way to seperate before its too late

Take the netting off before u plant will help roots spread alot faster without it. Those restrict roots big-time

Those work okay but when u transplant ur gonna wanna rip the net off the puck it’ll restrict roots bad. Atleast everyone I’ve used had a tiny root zone. Not using them I fill pots

@Mark0427 I’ve been useing them for 5 or 6 years I’ve never had a issue with any plants
