So for those of you who make bubble hash

How have I not found this site before? Maybe I did and forgot to bookmark it.

In all the research I’ve done I don’t remember reading that. How does 200ish degrees decarb in 10 min? Pressure? Now you have me feeling like I missed something. @HippieRunner1 Could you point me to a specific source or article? If there is a gap in my knowledge I would love to fix that.

The heating and pressing/rolling during the temple ball process is definitely a form of the decarboxylation process. Frenchie explains this in his extensive videos. No its not has high heat as you would use for prepping materiel for cooking but you are turning THCA into straight THC.
Hints why Temple Balls age and store for such extreme time frames compared to unpressed product.

Thanks, I’m pretty familiar with concept of decarb. I just didn’t think we were creating that much pressure but then I did a little math. I fell down the rabbit hole already. I like to know every last little detail. It bothers me when I realize there are gaps in my knowledge. Thanks for pointing them out to me.
Now for the real question, which ball do I want to sample while I do my reading?

I think I would go for the AK :sun_with_face: :v: :farmer:

LOL great minds think alike, I went for the 4th,5th and 6th cut ball. I’m saving all the prime stuff to smoke at the 4-20 hash making party next year. It’s just a little dirty, but quite tasty still

Getting conflicting info. Cure or no when making bubble hash.

My initial thoughts were no since the dry and cure is to make smoother smoke but I read that you should still cure it so you get the full flavor from the terps/trichs. Plus if you do not dry and cure, I would think you would get that green taste from the chloro not offgassing?

Do you all dry and cure like normal and then make hash outta the material?

My bags will be at the house tonight. Taggin in a few. Want to know for future grows on the dry and cure or chop and bubble hash?

I just freeze fresh and shake. We are removing trichs. I let age after shaking myself. Most curing is allowing the plant matter to lose chlorophyl. No need when just trichs mostly.

That makes sense. Thank you! What I have now has been cured. Some of it as long as a year or more. But I have BB cupcake about 4-5 weeks out and it is not growing like I like. Super frosty but a bunch of popcorn.

I did not feel like trying to trim this if she does not stack up. So I could chop, freeze and make hash? I am doing the water method.

So far in my experience(2 runs) fresh frozen seems to yield a little less, but It’s been stickier after washing. can’t say for sure yet, but possibly less yield from less contamination.

I am a dry ice guy. Have good results. Been a couple years since I made any.

You brought up another question. Should I wash? I always wash but I have only grown thus far for the buds.

I was thinking about the dry ice but not simple to get here. Unless I haven’t found the right place yet. I used to get dry ice from AirGas but that was for my company. Can we buy dry ice freely?

Yes. Most grocers will have it.

King Soopers. Hmm. Did strike duty for them in Denver early 90’s. I do 3 grades. Fine gold first shake. Browner second shake larger screen. Green 3rd shake next size for oils.

IMO you can dry sift and get a very high quality product, but it’s a little tougher than with water. It’s very easy to get very high quality with water if you just follow a good process. Dry sift (and dry ice) takes some experience even with a good technique to get premium quality.

I have done a lot of dry ice in the past and it has it’s place, but I don’t do it much anymore because I feel a good dry sift is better. Dry ice is too cold and turns the plant matter into dust(especially leaves) that increases contamination. Good technique helps and it’s not a big deal if you just want some sift to smoke in the next 20 min. I still do this from time to time. I’ve also seen it turn the liner in the bags to dust so I wouldn’t use dry ice if you have the fabric bags with a plastic liner.

Bubble hash and dry ice method are two different things.

When making bubble has its all preference. For example…

Frenchy is all about chopping down in the middle of the night when the he temps are colder. This is when the resin heads are open to the fullest and the best aromas accrue.

When making bubble hash with trimming it he trimmings normally is not cured so to chopping it off the flower and processing it right away. Still makes good hash.

In my many experience when using flower. (Not taking fresh frozen) it dose not matter if it’s cured or not. Once you hydrate the flower the aromas will appear regardless.
I definitely wouldn’t use flower that is in the off-gassing stage. lol
