SICK of using soil

Hello to all, it’s been awhile.
As the title says, I’m tired of trying to dial in soil. I’ve had mediocre results at best. I just can’t get a handle on whats going on in my root zone and soil seems to be all over the place with pH and salt etc. I am currently finishing 2 amnesia haze autos, which couldn’t be more different phenos. One is much more sativa leaning and the other looks much more indica. The sativa leaning one smells of sweet fruity acetone/kerosene and the other one smells like straight juicy fruit gum. Waiting for them to finish the last of bulking out so i can totally revamp the op.

The new set up will be a 20gal rez and halos dtw using Jacks on GG4 photos in coco. I used to rock coco and thats before i knew about buffering!
I will update when I get it all set up, if these amnesia haze ever finish…

Welcome back Grow Bro, I too left soil behind 4 years ago for coco. Much more control and the growth is exceptional :love_you_gesture:

Thanks OG:+1::100:
YES, the control factor!!!

I had a dickings of a time with soil and neuts haveing Ph swings but went to Roots Organig soil and Jacks and have never looked back. Absolutly no issues with that combo 5/6 grows so far and no issues.

Thank you for the heads up.
Already did and I’ve decided on the halos. Used to do drip lines because halos were CRAZY expensive back then. Price has come down a lot since then.

I endorse this plan! I’m running 70/30 coco/perlite with Jack’s 321 plus CalMag and silica. (I know many growers find a separate CalMag product unnecessary in coco.) Easy.

I was outside in containers with happy frog and my own compost. Did pretty good, but holy crap. Moved inside with Jack’s and Cannacoco bricks… shite… I shoulda done this years ago!!!

The Cannacoco bricks pre buffered, I just hydrated with full strength Jack’s and fluffed it every day for a few days until it wasn’t to soggy. Girls are LOVE’n it!

I think calmag is necessary to give the coco its share but def not a full dose. Apparently the buffer is everything. Im gonna double buffer then rinse down to 100ppm for the seedlings. @Isleofdogs

:point_up_2: not needed with Jacks 321 Growmie, Part B supplies your calcium and Part A has enough magnesium to omit the Epsom :love_you_gesture:

I agree that the science says I shouldn’t need CalMag with Jacks in coco. But on my grow#4 (Fall 2022) around Day 32, I had yellowing leaves that Joe, the local hydro store owner, diagnosed as a CalMag deficiency, so I’ve supplemented Jacks with calmag from then on. Just one data point, I know.

Understood, never had that issue and have used jacks for almost 4 years with and without the Epsom for magnesium and never a calcium supplement. Deficiencies are often PH related from my experience unless you’re running super high lighting intensity where the plants would require more calcium. I’ve had a few calcium hogs and opted to bump up the part B over an additive :love_you_gesture:

I’m pretty sure that the usual expression is “dickens of a time” but I do really like your variant “dickings of a time”

You are going to love coco. It is easy to use  I don’t pre charge. But have to make sure to top feed for at least the first 3 weeks. I make sure to get at least 4 cups of run off too. After that. The pots are ready for what ever  I like the autopots like @Myfriendis410 mentioned. But if I want the best growth. So far even the autopots can’t beat using a coco mat. The growth is crazy and roots are always coming out all over the place.

I went hydroponic because I struggled with soil. I can’t see ever going back to soil. Hydroponic for me works so well. Plants are big, healthy and yields are 3x what I could get in soil without all the problems

This may have been why I had to add Cal-mag, I pushed the limits on the light.

I will have to be cautious of that too with my mars 4800

Dang amnesia haze is chunking up still. I dont care what the nugs are doing, as soon as trics are cloudy theyre getting chopped.
I am chomping at the bit to get the coco up and running. Dremel bit to cut a dtw hole in my tray should be here today. I have everything else already.
Just want these to finish because my heart just aint in it for dirt anymore.
