Should I amend the soil.? I have just entered the flowering stage. I have a few pounds of Worm casting that I bought, so I thought I might do a little soil amend. What ya think? Or should I add something else, or do nothing? Thank you. Scott
As flowering begins the plant wants more phosphorus and potassium and less nitrogen.
Worm castings provide beneficial bacteria and some nitrogen.
Nothing wrong with adding some, but the plant needs more than that.
What soil is it?
Are you feeding anything else?
Welcome to the community , Go for it warm casting has a very low NPK value. As mentioned plants will also need
Nutes to Support flower and stage.
Good luck
I top dress with worm castings all the time. I actually like top-dressing with anything because… well, its just easier LOL.
I love the Recipe420 dry amendments. They have a veg and bloom mix.
Just scratch a little bit of the top soil to mix it in a bit.
ok, thank you.
The soil is coco matting from I LOVE Growing Marijuana, also "stage 3 Flower time fert. N16 / P6 / K30.
I grow in Coco and have for 3 years or so. Its a great media and plants thrive in it. The only thing I add to it is about 20% perlite to keep is loose. From experience I have learned Coco is best just plain. Adding other things to it changes the range of pH it likes and complicates your grow. Plain Coco coir likes a pH of 5.6 to 5.8, but once you start adding other things to it the pH it likes can change and then its a guessing game to find the sweet spot. On its own without amendments it will consistently out perform soil to a large degree so I don’t see the wisdom of adding other stuff to it trying to get a couple more grams of bud while risking the pH issues that could cut the production dramatically and defeat the whole purpose of amending it in the first place.
Its good to remember that Coco is not really a soil. It is totally inert and is one small step away from being hydroponic. The coco simply gives the plant something to form roots in and hold the liquid you mix. I love the results and wont go back to soil ever.
I have gone back and read some of your other posts about your grow and I am a little confused.
First you say its coco from I Love Growing Marijuana, but ILGM does not sell soil of any kind.
I see you were watering with plain water, but coco wont grow a plant with plain water. There is no nutrients in coco.
Do you have a picture of the bag the soil came in?
Good evening Sir. I thought I had bought soil( coco) from ILGM, but I guess I didn’t. I’m a first time Grower, so I prolly get some of the facts wrong. The water we feed the twin Girls is, Distilled water from walmart. All the FERT is from ILGM. Love the feedback from all my New friends on this site. I can Grow ROCKS, real earth Rocks, ever since I was a youth. Just kidding, what I mean is, I have been able to grow anything, so I thought, why not grow the Best crop, ( I’ll give it a try), so far I love it. Had some LEAF CURL at first, and couldn’t figure it out, but it seems to have lessened it’s grip on them. Any Info from anyone is Coveted. Scott
Its what we all love to do. What will often happen is your questions will be followed with other questions from us in order to diagnose your problems. For example you mentioned leaf curl. Without a picture of the plant we don’t know if its from heat, under/over watering, excess nitrogen, or something else. We ask questions to narrow down the possibilities. Newer growers will often just blurt out something they have seen based on their limited experience. Seasoned growers know there are a dozen causes for a symptom and will ask about specifics to get a real answer. So be interactive and provide specific answers to questions we post. You asked “Should I amend the soil?” Well, What soil is it? There are scores of bagged soils out there and they all have different qualities. Whatever it is there is probably someone here using it or has used it in the past. This is a good community and we dont bash anyone for their choices. I myself have done some really dumb things and nobody made me feel bad about it.
