Hey guys i wanna start getting ready for next grow!!! I have about 6 more weeks of flower on thisnrun but i wanna slowly start buying what i need for the medium… i just ordered new 5 gal fabric pots. So an upgrade from my 3 gal fabrics. I was thinking either doing 60% coco 20% perelite and 20% worm castings orrr 60% promix bx 20% perelite 20% wormcastings… my question would be which is better and do i amend right off the rip with some gia green all purpose and gia green bloom at maybe 50% recommendation? I plan to germinate in red solo cups and then right into the 5 gal pots. I dont like transplanting to much as i will be working with autos. Thanks in advance you guys are awesome!! And i will be starting a grow journal for that grow!
Adding anything beyond perlite to coco is a mistake. The reason for worm castings is microbial life to unlock organic nutrients in soil. Coco has nothing to break down so castings are useless. 10 to 20% perlite is all coco needs. Then feed and water daily.
I abandoned soil years ago as its just too much work keeping it happy. Coco does me fine. Others seem to have fun with soil and I wont argue with the result I see. Its up to you what direction to go. But if you go coco then dont try to amend it with anything. It works great with just some perlite.
Ok so 70% coco 30% perelite. And mix the powder nute in with the water and water daily?
Im sorry u said 80% coco 20% perelite
Sorry for the dumb question but is there any difference in brands of coco? Is one better to use thannthe other? Can i just buy the bricks off amazon?
There are different “kinds” buffered and nonbuffered. Also no dumb questions, we all start somewhere.
Many growers build their own soil but it’s way more involved than throwing some worm castings in. That will give you microbes and N but neglects all of the other nutrients and micronutrients needed to sustain growth and flower. Attached is a good soil recipe built by a knowledgeable member no longer with us:
Now do you just water coco once a day or is it more often? I have read everything from once a day to 4 times a day. Im thinking of getting an autowatering drip system for it vivosun has one for $40 and will handle 8 pots ( i can only grow 5 so this is perfect )
Feed coco daily or at the bare minimum it should remain damp. Some growers use high frequency fertigation with automated feeders, and some top feed daily, make sure you’re getting liberal run off with synthetic fertilizer
