Welcome to the Canna-Fam :love_you_gesture::call_me_hand::facepunch:. Try the search bar at the top it will answer most of your questions . Also they are plenty of journals with great information in them. Start looking through them find one close to what you’re trying to do or one you’d like to copy and take off my friend. Happy growing and good luck

Here’s why not to mix soil and coco, even if commercial companies sell it:

Coco and soil have differing pH requirements for nutrient uptake. The sweet spot for coco is 5.8, while the sweet spot for soil is 6.5. pH is measured on a logarithmic scale, so the difference between 5.8 and 6.5 is substantial (nearly 10x given the log scale.)

Coco and soil have differing watering requirements. Soil should be left to dry out between waterings for good root health, as roots need oxygen and it is difficult for roots to absorb oxygen when soil is chronically wet. Coco must be watered daily, as it drains water extremely well. Coco also becomes hydrophobic if it dries out.

I would pick either soil OR coco and stick with that. The benefit of coco is that growth rates are higher.

Appreciate the tag Brother. @keryilias the FF coco loco is my go to bag medium when I’m not using coco. It’s great for starting seedling and will feed for approximately 4-5 weeks with water only. I’ve ran several slurry test straight from the bag with PPM readings around 2500. I adjust my water source PH to 6.3 for veg and 6.3-6.5 during flower :love_you_gesture:

Would you say its good for all the way through flower aswell ?

Absolutely but with added nutrients. Start checking the run off PPMs around week 4 and feed full strength once that drops to 800. Here’s 2 in the first week of flower and around week 6 from breaking ground :love_you_gesture:

so is watering and feeding different, im figuring feeding is just adding nutrients to the water such as general hydroponics liquids ?

Yes.
Plain Coco is watered and fed every day - target pH is 5.8
Soils are watered and then let dry out for a wet/dry cycle - target pH is 6.8

Difference is Coco is inert and after watering is full of tiny air pockets that allow the roots to get oxygen.
Soil will hold water and need time to be used up and as its used it will dry out and give the roots access to oxygen. Soil watered every day will simply starve the roots of air.

so should i water once a week then maybe every other week add some nutrients to the water and water wit that on apposing weeks or as needed ?

Water when its needed. You simply need to learn when to water. Simple way is to lift the grow bag a little bit and feel how heavy it is. It will be very light when you need to water. There is no way to know how many days that will be. Might be several or it could be just 1 or 2.

Once the the PPMs drop below 800, feed full strength…my tap water source is 150 PPMS after jacks 321 and PH down it’s around 850-900ish. I feed this strength every time. With straight coco it’s a daily routine, with coco loco I let it go for several days to almost dry. Drench the pot to liberal run off testing the PPMs and PH occasionally and would recommend doing this the first several feedings to get better acquainted with the medium and feeding routine. I grow in 3 gallon pots and the feeding frequency changes during the grow cycle with the stretch and several weeks following having the largest appetite. A great way to judge this was mentioned by @Spiney_norman using the lift method :love_you_gesture:

So many choices out there! It does get confusing. I would recommend if using the coco loco treat like a soil grow. Let it dry somewhat between waterings, and start off with feeding every other watering. If using a coco, mix in 1/3 perlite to 2/3 coco, and treat as a coco, (hydro), grow. Fed every day after there is good size root zone is getting started.
I use Roots Original soil, and the ingredients are very close to the Coco Loco. When following soil guidelines I have no problems with the Roots Original. But I would never try to mix all of those things myself, as I know if the mixture is not balanced it will lead to ph issues.

any nutrients you would suggest to add to the cocoloco i was looking at like extra worm casings and bat guano or should i do more like Gaia Green Bundle 2-8-4 Power Bloom and 4-4-4 All Purpose mixes ?

You will find the more experienced growers tend to keep things simple.
When you start adding several things it becomes difficult to identify what is causing an issue in a grow. Its been my experience that all those extras don’t really give you much if any return. My best grows have been when I kept it to water and basic nutrients.
After trying several nutrient lines and additives I have landed on Jacks 321
Two powders, and plain filtered water. It calls for Epsom salt but I have eliminated that as its not needed. So its just Jacks Part A and Part B.
