@Boone the terminology includes things like “feminized,” “regular,” “autoflower,” “photoperiod,” and the Filial generations (F1, F2, etc) as myself and others mentioned above.
If you want to be certain you’re getting a female plant (a 99% chance, anyhow), then you want a feminized seed. There is, to my knowledge, not a “grade” that corresponds to “feminized” in the cannabis world. It is either feminized or regular. I would expect to pay something like $5-$10 per seed for a good quality (trusted source) feminized seed.
The male needs to polinate a female plant to make seeds. Where does the seed gets created? On the flower and needs to be plucked? Apologies for being so naive. Lol.
Yes, on the female flowers. The male flowers release pollen that the female flowers catches to make seeds.
Once the female flowers have been pollinated, they stop producing THC and start making seeds. That’s why we generally don’t want male plants around our crops…
You will notice the flowers on the female plant swell at a quick rate. The pistils or “hairs” will turn red where pollen has landed very quickly, as well. This will be the first indicator of successful pollination. Using “regular” male and female plants to do this creates regular seeds, with 50/50 chances of being either male or female. When seeds are “feminized”, they come from a plant that was either forced to produce male flowers and pollinated itself, or from a female plant that was pollinated with forced male flowers from another female.
Jeez I need to get into trying this sxxx out myself.
Be careful where you store your Grove bags. The contents tend to settle RH with the environment your bags are stored in, in my personal experience… So it’s possible to overdry…
Looks about like the ones I had to use for the Momma’s Mango… the bags were not completely full and they had about 10 ounces (so I think they were 1 pound bags… measured 18" X 14")
But I also had to use turkey bags because I didn’t have enough Grove Bags (at first… eventually got the GB and transferred) but the turkey bags had close to 695 g (24.5 ounces/1.5 pounds)… probably could hold 2 pounds.
I totally agree! We have very low RH here and I have to add boveda packs and sometimes fresh leaves or an orange peel… I have to check them every 2 weeks or so and check. I found the small bags do a better job so I’ve moved many of my large bags into a bunch of smaller bags. Would be nice to find a long term storage solution for a large amount…
I tried heat-sealing the large ones to no avail. The really small ones, I don’t have problems with. I’ve tried packing them fuller, packing them less, etc.
Hm. I pack mine with about 20% head room and leave them in a refrigerator. They don’t seem to have an issue. I haven’t ever had to heat seal em but I also don’t do outdoor plants so I’m not really dealing with lbs and lbs at a time.
Maybe the fridge is the key but I have too much to put in any fridge we have (and we have 3 large ones and 2 small ones As it is, I take up 1/4 or a large standup freezer with my trim/shake and I’ve vacuum sealed it so they are pretty flat in the package. I do have some of my special (favorite) buds in mason jars in the fridge and they maintain the RH perfectly. Maybe I need to get a weed fridge… now where to put it LOL
