Seeds in Rockwool

I will be purchasing Blue Dream Grade A+ strains but was told that I will not be guaranteed to receive female seeds. Is this true? Would like to have your honest opinion on this matter. By the way, what difference does it make being male or female seeds?

Good morning @Boone and welcome to the forum! :partying_face:

If you bought “regular” seeds, it’s normal. They could be either male of female. If you bought feminized seeds (female) from a reputable seed bank, like ILGM, you will get female plants.
Male seeds produce male plants that produces the pollen that will make more seeds. But it needs to polinate a female plant for that to happen.
Female seeds will produce female plants that will produce flowers. Female flowers is what you want to smoke or consume…

And that’s the basic explanation…

Welcome to the forum @Boone!!! You have come to the right place. :call_me_hand:t2::call_me_hand:t2::100:

I got 6 zips from my last Blue Dream fem photo from ILGM. I gave away 1/2 of it and got good feedback. Not to mention my thoughts, which were equally good!! :rofl: :joy:

For starters I don’t know what “Grade A+” means. It’s either Blue Dream or it isn’t. There are different markers of quality, but that comes from filial generations (F, S, or R ranks, from 1 to 6 usually) not from “grades.” I’d probably not buy from someone who advertised seeds in grades, because I’d be concerned they didn’t know what they had/were talking no about

As Kap said, seeds can be “regular” (equal chance male or female) or “feminized” (most likely to be female).

The female plant is the only form that produces smokable bud that gets you high. Male plants are good solely for reproduction, they don’t generate any THC.

And lastly, welcome to the community! Glad to have you on board. Feel free to ask away - I’m a firm believer that there’s no such thing as a stupid question. You may feel like it from time to time as you begin your grow journey, but rest assured we all asked the same or similar questions. :100::v::sunglasses:

Great point! :+1:

Totally agree… But I might have been guilty of giving some stupid answers… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Don’t worry @Boone , there’s plenty of great, really helpful growers that wants us all to succeed. @Graysin being one of them… Have fun here and never hesitate to ask your questions. There will almost always be someone with an answer!

I can attest that @Graysin is fully capable of answering all the stupid questions us noobs throw at him. I’m also confident once my questions become complex, he will be my go to.

She won’t mind. :call_me_hand:t2::call_me_hand:t2::100:

Absolutely not a bit. :v::sunglasses::100:

We’ll see. :joy: some things are mysterious to me still.

Welcome to the forum @Boone !

I even forgot I had Eleven Roses growing until I harvested it, and forgot her again until after she dried enough to trim.

I still have … 10-12 plants to trim. Thank god they’re all so small.

Looking good :+1:t4:

Small plants need lovin too :heart::call_me_hand:t2::call_me_hand:t2:

Thanks for your speedy advice. Much appreciated. I am a newbie investing into a growing facility.

Thanks again.

The reason I raised this question was i was promised a grade A seed hence I assumed it is a female strain. Wouldn’t you think so? However, I was later informed that if i want a guarantee of a female seed then I need to buy a grade A+ seed which is more expensive.

Is there a grade A and A+ in the market to differentiate this?

Also. I have been told if I grow a male seed next to a female plant, the male plant will pollenise the female plant becoming a male ? Is that really possible? hmmm….

No if u set a male plant that has pollen sacs next to a female plant that shows pistils. The male plant will do exactly what we do to women the pollen hits the pistils and impregnates the plant same as a sperm hitting an egg inside. When the 2 meet they make seeds. Lol. If u have a female plant and start to see banners pop and there was no male around to cause anything like this then I would say that that female plant is a bit weird and wants to throw some male pollen that’s not good and will make for no good of seeds.

I think you’re talking about feminizing. You can spray certain solutions on a female plant that will turn it i to male. Then, when it pollinates itself or other female plants, those seeds are feminized, meaning they have a 99.9% chance of being a female plant.

Grade A and A+ are marketing gimmicks. There is no such thing unless they are simply saying that they come from sturdy, quality genetics. But there is no real grading system for seed quality. Unless you mean they produce some top shelf bud, but still…

When purchasing seeds, try to research the breeder and seed bank. You could call ILGM grade A, they have great genetics, quality plants with good yields, and great service on the business end. The real deal is the grower providing all the essentials to make some fat juicy nugs.

I think @Graysin covered this accurately above. If you want to make sure to get a female, get feminized seeds.

Are you buying the seeds from online, or from a local shop? I could lay a hundred seeds out on a plate, pick out the nicest ones and call them grade A, but that really means nothing.
Unless the breeder has put in the work, and stabilize the genetics, there are way too many variables to guarantee that your seed will be or produce grade A. Reputable breeder was put in the time to stabilize the genetics is the best guarantee, and they are not graded, the listed as Generations such as F1, f2, F3 and on. I’m not really versed up in there nomenclature, but this is how the genetics and the possibilities from the seeds are rated. If you want guaranteed females, buy from a top seed bank. Every seed has the capability of growing the best, or every seat has the capability of being a bust. If the work has been done, the last part is rare.
