Should I remove these shells or will the come off naturally? Planted almost exactly 48hrs ago. 2 have already shed the shell and growing second set of leaves. The other 4 are like this
I always let the plant take care of business itself. I have had problems injuring plants trying to remove the shell before.
I use tweezers to remove the shells
Put me in the removal camp. Probably not a wrong answer here. I had injury arise from not removing a shell…now I remove with prejudice. Before the plant is even fully erect. I mist it first to soften it up then come back ten fifteen minutes later and pop it off. I broke a pair of tweezers at the base. If I catch both sides of where the shell is opening from it pops off with barely any force. Don’t grab and tug.
I got all of em off without too much resistance. They look like they have a lil bit of a coating on em still but hopefully they pop open
Hard to see in pics but I think your talking about what I call the skin. Go ahead and carefully get that off too. Cotelydons should spread apart naturally when your done…or that’s what I do anyway.
I did use tweezers, but I used them in reverse. pointy ones & put them under the shell & instead of squeezing I pulled them apart. Could probably use retainig clip pliers to remove them, I’ll try that next as there’s a pair in the basement & didn’t think of them at the time.
@Eagles009 @pillsbury yea I just used my thumb nails and pulled them apart. Plant barely budged
Thanks everyone!
@pillsbury @Eagles009 @PharmerBob the leaves where the seeds just came off look kind of hunched over should I try and lift and straighten them or work they perk up?
I’d let them do their own thing for now
Leave the leaves be, she’s had enough stress for today, you just may have save her life tho and she will reward you for it
I was goin a to explain that very technique got have way thru the 2nd paragraph and figured i over complicated a simple task
