Seed floating, good or bad

Decided to start a seed by soaking in water. It’s floating after 4 hours. I read one website that said that good because it utilizes both air and water, and another that says if it doesn’t sink it’s screwed. So which is it?

I’m on my 1st grow and I soaked mine in a cup a water. 2 days for one seed to pop and 3 days for the other and both floated.

Don’t worry! It is normal for them to float for a long time before they drop to the bottom, they don’t weigh anything so they float until their outer shell softens and opens, a small drip of hydrogen peroxide I read can loosen the shell up a big faster, anyway if after 24 hours it still hasn’t dropped to the bottom that’s okay give it a little tap with your finger and it should drop to the bottom, that’s when you take it out and put it in paper towel cause a root tail is coming!

Patience will pay off! You’re in the right place to ask questions and learn

A seed will usually sink in straight water after a bit. 4 hours is early.

Give it a day. If the seed opens put it in the medium. If not, you can still put it in the medium or in a wet paper towel in a plastic bag in the dark. Once the seed opens it should go into the medium.
