SCROG advice for a beginner

I’m trying to nail down the scrog and need some advice for when to flip to flower.

Hey there,

I usually make my first net as tight as possible so the plants can’t move them as much. I flip when my nets are full or close as I can get to full. Just have to stay up on defoliation. I like to over grow and and be selective.

A lot of people will flip when they fill their nets 75-85% and continue tucking as flower ensues.

You have a larger space then I so I would say the logical answer would be to stay under your lights coverage area as much as possible.

Thank you for the advice. I definitely figured I had some room left for more time in veg, but am always worried about the stretch going into my lights and ruining a grow.

I’ve run scrogs with veg times sometimes up to 6 months and never outgrew the space. I think most of my tents are 6-6.5’. Only once with blue Dream and had to buy a tall gorilla tent and move it beginning of flower.

Scrog low, defoliate often.

Beautiful grow by the way.:fire:

Thanks, you as well! Are you journaling it at all?

No, I haven’t quite figured out how to do that part on here yet.

I recommend it when you get the time. You will get some regulars and often time get consistent help or opinions. Then you won’t have to make more topics. Just easier. :call_me_hand:t3:

Either way, we are all here to learn and help. :sunglasses: so whether or not you do it, the community is the same.

So do you defoliate during veg? Do i need to flip early in a 5’2 2x2 tent? @Lhag89 sorry for jumping in on your post like this I was just hoping to ask a couple of questions. @Low I have a blue dream plant that is 27 days old from seed. The two tops from where i topped it have just reached the net, its foliage is super dense it seams. Im a newbie so keep in mind i have no idea what i am talking about just playing it by ear lol. But ive been told on here to just let it grow right now because its still young and those extra leaves are collecting light. I could see where clipping a handful of larger fan leaves and maybe a couple that are starting to touch the walls but im afraid im gunna skrew up something and cant take it back haha. Gunna put a couple of pics of it from yesterday. Also i think i need more fans, the humidity is gunna be an issue if i dont im afraid.

I forsure overwatered her the day i took this pic and shes still real droopy now. Thanks guys for any advice:v::v::metal:

I defoliate often throughout veg. Are you planning on using that net for support or are you scrogging?

As for height of your tent and when you flip, it can double/triple in size. My BD was a freak of nature and quadrupled. Lol.

Thats wild man haha. Im planning to scrog and as of now that is the only net I have. I was actually kicking around the idea of building and scrog today out of wooden dowel rods so that it will be ridged and then adding this net later for support. Does that seam like a good plan or am i alright with just the one net now? Also at the stage my plant is in how would you go about selecting what leaves to trim??

It’s a good plan to build your own and use stretchy for the secondary.

I recommend cut to size scrog nets for the second and possibly third net that support the flowers… because you can cut the plant out on harvest instead of trying to dissect everything.

Like this…

These green nets are ugly but they are better than the standard white nets you can get. Why? The white nets when cut can leave behind the material it’s made of. Little fuzzy bits, which stick to bud. The green nets don’t do this, and they don’t tangle as much as the white nets.

Here’s how I do mine

In this one I used the A/C infinity trellis netting (cut to size) and was disappointed. I got it very cheap on sale so I tried it. I was thinking that coming from them it wouldn’t leave anything behind, but it did. Should of stuck with the green stuff.

I trim fan leaves throughout the grow to expose bud sites/colas as much as possibly. By the end my canopy will only be 10” deep. From the top of the when the light hits and I focus my ppfd to 10” down, everything below that point I get rid of. I try to get rid of everything under the canopy line by around week 3 of flower, actual flower, not transition. Because after transition the stretch mostly comes to a stop and it’s easier to determine what’s gotta go.

As far as how much to take or what to take… well that comes down to canopy density. Something you will have to feel out. It’s hard to explain or do through pictures. If it’s directly blocking a site that you want to give a chance to make it to the end, clip the leaf. If any leaves are laying on top of each other, they will harbor moisture and leave behind wet leaves, get rid of it, or both.

By the end there aren’t a whole lot of fans left on my plants.

Duuuuuudddeee @Low … I have never seen a prettier plant and set up. Im seriously in aw haha. Really like your wood frame idea with the netting and im gunna have one made before i start my next plant. I can just do the one at a time in my 2x2. I like the idea of it being collapsible so i may try to implement some hinges and see if i can save on space when its not in use. Im actually a welder/fabricator in the day time so i might try and build an aluminum one. What does a plant that size yeild? Id be scared to guess. Ill post some pics when i get the dowels put together on my journal.

I appreciate that! :call_me_hand:t3: Aluminum would be awesome. You can probably get away with some half inch angled stuff and construct something super low profile and very easy to clean. Think on including adjustable legs as well. Higher lower.

Which in particular? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

2x4’s used this way usually generate anywhere from 13 oz to 1.5lb

@MadamCalamity
Pulled nearly a LB out of a 27x27 recently…

The 4x4 could produce up to 5 lbs with decent yielders.

@Low that is absolutely ridiculous lol. Im in a 27x27x52 with a spider farmer se-3000. I watched a youtube video where a guy was trying to get over lb out of a 2x2. Said the first time he tried he got 15oz. I would loose my mind . Im hoping i can consistently get 4-5 oz. That would get me through in between grows comfortably i belive. It helps my feelings alot know that its definitely possible. Some of you guys on here are like wizzards. I never dreamed some of the stuff ive seen on this forum was even possible haha.

It can be done for sure. Not all plants are yielders though. Need a good candidate.

There’s a lot of good people here and a lot of variety in growing methods. Pretty awesome to follow along!

DUDE! Other than your Scrog worries( won’t be joining in the Scrog conversation as you have plenty of people pointing you in the right direction.) if this is your first grow your doing excellent, your a lot better than you think you are. Worry less take a breath and enjoy it, you’re doing fine. TLK😎
