Ryoken's White Widow no0b initiation, frmly Yellowing edges on seedlings

This is a couple of pH scale diagrams that shows correct pH ranges in Hydro and soil. Some like the top one, some the bottom one. Shows you why pH is so important.

You’re welcome @TxGrowman, it’s always a pleasure to share info :grinning::v::innocent:

how can you tell the difference between ph level and lights to close?

Now that is very useful information

pH meter is the only way to identify pH problems that I know of. Measuring the runoff pH is a very accurate way to tell the pH that the roots are living in. See the two charts above that I put in explaining deficiencies and optimal ranges for pH in soil and hydro.

Light problems can be detected by several methods. First, look at the manufacturer’s recommendations on how far away to set the light from the plant but remember that it is only a guide. The second way is to hold your hand, palm down, over the plant at the top of the canopy . If you can keep it there comfortably for 8-10 seconds, your light is most likely not too close. Hope that helps. Jerry

thanks so much for the charts TxGrowman, appreciate it… saved

I went for the oakton meter, be here Monday…

gonna see about getting the humidifier in there tonight, dome off, and the small fan going to move a bit of air around…

I’d like to get them transplanted mid/late next week, at 2 wks or so, into the 7 gal smart pots and ocean first… and fire up the MH system…

The upper growth will seem like it has stopped on transplant but the roots are working hard to build a good network to support the flowers later. A seven gal pot should get you a pretty good yield if you play it right. I just started smart pots and love it !

Nice pH meter. Amazon?

yes… and thanks for the help…

I try not to cheap out on “tools” and such… read good reviews on that one… was originally gonna buck up and buy a 1000w HID setup for my grow space, but decided to scale it back to a 600… feel soooo stooopid for not paying as much attention to my water as I should have… figured it wasn’t tap water and around 7, I was good, doh… I’ve been trying to research as much as I could the last few months after getting the bug to finally try this…

got my humidifier going tonight and a slight breeze in the room tonight… 73 degrees and a consistent 60% humidity, I’m happy… definitely seeing some yellowing still on the edges, but hopefully getting my PH under control over the next few days will get them back under control… will be checking runoff from now on…

sheesh, it’s like having a baby, puppy, etc, lol… i’m home till march, so I’m checking the room every hr or so for now…

and yeah, I’ve been aware that sometimes what you see up top isn’t so important… was very glad to start seeing some roots reach the outside of the clear pots… I’m hoping my transplanting goes smoothly…

thanks again mang… as someone who has given countless hr’s of help to people on mechanic/fab forums, I truly appreciate the time people take to help others…

just wanted to give a quick update… after giving the girls some proper 6.5 water for a couple waterings, the leaves are looking MUCH better…

I transplanted 3 out of 4 yesterday to their final 7 gal smart pots… even the 4th one that was only growing “one side” of the plant, is coming around and looking good… have to figure out what to do with that one, maybe throw it in a 5 gal sp and transplant it outside when it warms up a bit… pretty certain I wont have room for 4 in there…

giving them a few days to “settle in”, and I’m gonna get the 600 MH setup going this weekend…

oh, and boy, they seem short for being on what looks like their 4th node!

thanks again for the help everyone!

The angle might be throwing off perspective so ignore if the fan isn’t aimed right at the plant.

You might just want to tilt the small fan up a bit. Over the top is better than aiming directly at them.

thanks…

still playing with it… it actually isn’t directly at them, more at the base of the pots, it seemed to give them a bit of a flutter… when I had it pointing slightly above them, it didn’t seem to be moving them at all… I’m aware I don’t want TOO much but a hint of movement is what I was looking for…

I’m gonna pick up another of the same fans and play around a bit with the air flow… I had to turn off the 4" exhaust fan in the ceiling for now… my intake is actually the overly large gap at the bottom of the door… but with it being winter, the heater on the upper shelf is having trouble keeping the room up to temp… so i’m just running the circ fans for now…

I have a co2 pot to go in a bit, so hopefuly the spring will bring reasonable temps and I can get a nice airflow/temp/hum/CO2 going…

Sounds good. The picture kinda looked like it was 5" away pointing right on the plant. If the plant is just slightly moving you’re okay.

can anyone link/point me to an article that explains what’s going on with PH runoff?

the girls really look good to me since good water, I’d take a pic but the bat is dead… they are in fresh ocean forest as of weds in the 7 gals, did a good watering with 6.5 that day, didn’t check runoff… they seem to be thriving now under the new lights, after a day or 2 of transplant shock… I just did a second watering with 6.5 this afternoon, and finally got to check my runoff, all 3 where at 5.6??? what does that mean? are they healing or something? taking in stuff they where missing from the earlier bad water? will it continue to get closer to the 6.5 i’m putting in them?

@garrigan62 @latewood may have some answers for you

Do not worry about runoff unless you are developing issues. As long as you water with 6.5 and plant looks good; Do not flush and flush to get runoff. All you end up doing is flushing the essential minerals out of the Ocean Forest.
