hello there again as i sit here and do some work i was wondering something and i know my wonderful family here can help me out. so i was looking into raised bedding as well to start an op all sun with the other op. i am curious as to some of the takes in here on the height of the raised bed not the soil but the bed itself. hypothetically say it was a 4x4 area w sq ft fr each plant totaling 16 plant count with about 8 inches of soil per sq. ft this will leave close to 5 gallons give or take which is enough to thrive so again what would the a good height on the bedding be? @dbrn32
I don’t grow that kinda green outside, sorry. We have a couple of boxes on our patio that are about 12" tall my daughter grows some peppers in. That seems to be pretty good height for our purpose.
Yea I want to experiment this was the purpose from what I’m reading not to hight would u mind taking a look and feeding some insight @dbrn32

I’m sure it would work. Probably similar to grows in pots.
We made raised best this year. 4’x 4’ x 20”.
2”x10” lumber.
Each box took one full portion recipe of supersoil cut with 20% perlite.
You will find that outdoor plants need a lot of room. 16 plants in a 4’x4’ square will crowd each other in no time, (unless they’re autos). I’d put just 1 plant in a 4’x4’ area, (but I do like them to get big).
I have another box and I started planting each square foot, 16 total. Too tight.
I like them 9 per box set up. I’m going to do it again and prune any lateral branching. 1 cola plants mixed strains. They will go in the box in 2-4 weeks when I harvest these afghani plants.
What you are looking at is pretty much Square Foot Gardening… I’ve run as many as 12 each 4 x4 foot x 12" boxes at one time using home made “Mel’s Mix”.
If I were gonna do it in raised beds, I would do a max of 2x2 plants in a box…
SFG for veggies works in as little as 6-8 inches, but I would use 12 sides for our purposes and initial fill with 10".
Be prepared with some sort of support structure… A 4 posted scrog frame with a 16 square lattice at 3 foot or so might work… make the lattice height variable on the 4 corner posts for variability.
This seems like a legit way to set it up because u need some room in between ur plants. Good find
Sorry to get back so late been busy as hell instead of led i am going to stick w the hps and go to a bigger set up. anyhow on the raised beds for outsid purposes i did too think this was alot of plants for this space and though i get why they would suggest this i was thinking in a 4x4 area legitimately to allow them to say get big and so on that 6-8 plants would do but that they would have to. i agree you will need to set up a screen etc but to me that is borderline getting to close to defeating the whold sceario and get a green house i want a plant count but want also yield therefore i will veg longer duh less plants the initial longer veg should take care and offset this is that even logical @AAA ? what would a 2x2 set up be like @QST_59 logical and thanks for the insight i think that i overthought the situation this is around what i wanted to do just want some good ol sun grown every now and then
I think 8 in the staggered diagram is perfect.
My goal for s main colas, so even if you have to trim some side branches you will have the monkey shot buds.
I always prefer more plants with less topping, training, etc.
Banking on 1 or 2 plants(especially from seed) to be what you want seems like a possible let down. Multiple individuals of one strain or multiple strains just seems like a better variety.
