Question about SCROG grow

So This is my first SCROG grow. Right now I have 2 power plant girls under my net in veg. They are getting pretty large. Up until now I’ve always just flowered using LST and such so actually using the net is new to me. My question is about when to trim all the undergrowth that isn’t going to reach the net? I have one plant that is basically turning into a lil forest and one that will need a lot less trimming because of a deficiency problem earlier in veg. I’ve been trying to read up on a lot of journals and other guides and it seems like most people trim everything that isn’t going to reach the net just before they switch to 12/12 flowering timing which would mean I should probably try to trim everything down next time I water my girls. However, I’ve also read a few people that wait until a couple weeks into flower so that the trim is useable. So to all the experienced SCROG growers out there could you help me out and give me your opinion on how you trim your girls? Has anyone tried both ways and gotten different results? Here’s a few pics of my girls for reference just cause.

Thats the bushier girl first getting tucked and some of how bushy she is. And that’s the less bushy one. And now here is the bushy one how she looks now… And finally the less bushy girl which has grown alot after recovering from her earlier deficiency.

So again I’m just not sure when to start trimming everything that might not reach the net and don’t want to mess up my first SCROG grow as it seems to be going fairly well so far. Hope to hear from some of you with more experience soon. Happy growing to all

I am no expert…but it looks like you are over due for some “under trimming”.

I get serious about the lower growth when the frame is full but it is important to maintain good air flow.

Overall, looking good!

Thanks man I was really thinking I might be runnin alittle late with my trim but honestly just got my net actually constructed and over my girls like 2 weeks ago so I’ve been playing catch up with the SCROG grow but its been such a fun learning curve. I just wanted to try to get input from people who have been doing it a bit longer than me. How long do people usually wait for recovery after the trim before switching to flower? I feel like my girls are getting pretty big for my net.

Mine would be flipped already…I continue to keep the under growth trimmed all through flower.
When the frame is 60 - 70% full is when I have flipped to flower.

I just went back to look at your photos again, you can flip now or wait a few days, the frame still has a bit of room.

That’s great to know see I wasn’t sure if I should be trying to get everything that absolutely needed to be done in one sweep which would be very difficult to do especially before going to flower. l also wanted to make sure others keep trimming into flower without problems in SCROG grows because I did that with my LST grows but I didn’t want a bad misstep with my new adventure. Thanks for the input its much appreciated

You do want to keep pruning to minimum during flower, just do a little a time to keep up with new growth.

nice that should get easier and easier as it goes along to. I’m finding having the net to constantly move the branches to where the plant wants to go so helpful now so I think that should carry over throughout the whole grow. I should probably wait a few days after switching to flower before trimming just to avoid over shocking them right?

Most would say “yes” but I don’t worry too much about that. The plants will show signs when you over do something. I take notes so I don’t repeat that mistake.

Yea I’ve become a big fan of journaling my experiences with my grows over the years after winging it the first couple I had to start keeping track of everything so that I wouldn’t keep making the same mistake over and over. Now I’m on my 5th journal keeping everything from nutes to pH and trimming details and it helps so much to be able to go back and look at my previous grows and know where things went wrong or something might have stunted. Now that I’ve been on the forum I’m trying to take more pics to go with the journals as well figuring that will help having a stockpile of those to look back at too for everything from previous deficiencies to trimmings and clones and tie down strategies.

So I started my underside trimming a couple days ago when I watered my girls. Took a whole lot off of both of them but I have a lot to go on the bushier of the two and a little bit left on the less bushy girl. Thanks to those who helped. After I gave them their underside trim the girls grew at least an inch maybe inch and a half overnight so I think that they really appreciated getting some of the stuff that wasn’t getting much light and wouldn’t meet the net off of them so they could put their energy where it was needed.

If only I had the room for all the clones that I could have taken off of these girls while doing this trim… I did take a few but man it kills me not planting everything that looks like it’d make a nice lil girl and then just try to find them a nice home somewhere or something like that if I only had the area haha anyway here is how the girls are starting to look after their first trim… you can start to see through them. That is the bushier of the two girls and as you can see I’ll have to do some more trimming on her as this goes on. I only had so much time when I was trying to get both of them the first time. That is the less bushy of the two. Now I’ll be flipping the girl to flower in just a couple of days after they recover and keep tucking and tucking. Might take one or two more clones depending on how the clones I took are looking (the light I have in my closet right now is a little to bright for the little ones I think I have to get a dimmable driver for my LED board) Thanks again to all who helped and watched. Any additional advice is greatly appreciated. Have a good one everyone.
