Hey guys, I put this seed in the dirt 8 weeks ago and switched to 12/12 6 weeks ago. Does that mean I’m in week 6 of flower?
Anyway, only maybe 30% of the pistils are red, but to my eye, almost all the trichomes are milky. I even saw one or two amber heads in there.
I don’t know the strain so I can’t get any clues from that department. It’s growing more like a sativa (skinny leaves) but I’m not real qualified to make that judgement. Temps have been from 65 to 85 F if that makes a difference. I included some pictures but they are trash so I dunno if it will help. My instinct says to wait, but those trichomes look ready to me. What do you think?
The clock starts when pistils first appear at the tips of the plant.
You have 4 to 5 weeks to go yet. Begin looking at trichomes when the white pistils have browned and receded back into the buds.
Definitely does not look ready. Use a microscope or loupe to review the trichomes To my understanding, flower starts when you see buds forming not when you switch to 12/12. Looks great though keep it up.
I think your about 1/2 way through flower. Another 4 to 5 weeks. Most the white hairs will be color closer to harvest.
Like a dummy, I left out the fact that I did use a microscope. The trichomes are almost entirely milky, with even a few amber ones in there. And yea, based on time and pistil color, I don’t think it’s even close to ready but man, the fully milky trichomes are throwing me off
Still not ready. Start your look with pistil change. Then look at trichs.
Let her goooooo, you’ll be a lot happier ![]()

Thanks, everyone, for the input
As @Storm suggested, don’t bother with looking at trichomes until all or most of the pistils have turned red/brown and receded.
As others have stated, several weeks to go, at least. Perhaps 5 or 6 even.
Newer growers often harvest weeks too early. The buds fatten and fill in during the last couple of weeks. Don’t put all of the effort in, only to cheat yourself in the end.
Your behind in where you are actually at. You flipped at 2 weeks right? Just bc you flip does not mean the plant will go to flower. Your plant most likely was not mature yet. Therefore will not flower until she is.
Yea, this is my third grow and it’s been a weird one. I waited way to long to get the seed planted but I figured hell with it. Even though it’s getting too cold, I’ll see what happens and try to learn what I can. Then I started looking pretty good and that gave me a ray of hope that I might actually get something from it. But I knew I was running out of time so I flipped much sooner than I would’ve liked.
In any case, I guess I did know it wasn’t time yet, but the trichomes being all milky (even a couple amber heads!) really messed me up. I know you can also use pistil color as a good gauge but I thought the trichomes were the ultimate decider. I’ll give it some time yet. Thanks everyone
