I need some guidance on changing my light setup. I am currently running a sun systems 400w hood with a hortilux blue MH bulb for veg, and a sun systems xxxl 6" 1000w hood and hardcore switchable ballast with a hortilux super HPS bulb for flower. Due to power consumption, temp control, and longevity, id like to upgrade. Ive read many posts here, watched the HLG videos, and wanted the experts to chime in before I spend the money.
My grow tent is a 5’x5’x80".
I have the skills to assemble myself
Is the XL 260 V2 the latest and greatest?
How many kits do I need, with some power to spare?
The v2 boards are their flagship line. It’s not the latest from them, but their newest isn’t neccessary the best they have to offer either. It’s more of a situational deal in which one may be a better application than others.
I would consider three of the 260 xl kits a pretty hot setup for a 5x5. The three fixtures would give you quite a bit of flexibility in coverage, and should pretty easily surpass light intensity levels you had at canopy with 1000 watt hps. All while lowering your consumption some too.
Yessir. If you get drivers ending in “A” they have built in dimmer. That’s easiest route, and will dim plenty low enough to veg with. If they end in “B” they need external dimming source like a potentiometer. If yoh get b drivers you should be able to have them send dimmer in kit.
HLG has the 260W QB V2 LED KIT on sale for $330 and free shipping, which is out of stock.
They have the 260W QB V1 LED KIT on vlearance for $299. Should I wait for the V2 or is the V1 ok?
V1- Lamp Efficacy with QB 288 V1 2.33 µmol/J , 157Lm/W
Board Level Efficacy with QB 288 V1 2.48 µmol/J , 167.3Lm/W
The v1 kits are still pretty good. You have the difference there posted, so up to you really. Also, be sure to get the xl kits. You will want the longer heatsink.
I just recently purchased and installed 3 of them in my 5x5. They are friggin awesome. I think that you will be very happy with them. I was also running a 1,000 watt MH/ HPS system before switching. Just installed them Friday and I am happy, happy, happy. I think that you will feel the same way about it
