Shopping for a new quantum board light for a 4 x 4 tent. So far, I see I can get a refurb HLG 550 v1, refurb HLG 550v2, or a new HLG 600H v2Respec. About $200 difference from 55v1 to 600 v2. I’m growing for a hobby, more than anything. Would only be 2 or 3 plants at a time, always autos. Is the cost worth the upgrade? Thanks

U could do 2 260w xls so that u can have different height adjustments or 2 320w kits would max that space out and still have 2 different fixtures to ajust for different plant heights

I totally get what you’re saying @Killadruid, makes perfect sense, and the price point is still there, too. You’ll all get a laugh, but having that many hangers, light, cords tends to make my OCD flare up. (another reason I’m growing). I’ll have 2 tents going, so if there is an issue with height, I have some lattitude.

You can probably buy the cheapest. I also think doing the two 260xl kits would be viable option. Two of those kits probably run around $700, identical amount of light as hlg-550 using the same boards and drive current.

Thanks, guys. In a related question, how should the dimmer switch be used? Drop the light and wattage low for seedlings, and ramp both up as the plants grow? My electric bill this summer is way up from last year, and would like to pare it down if possible. I know these lights are not real costly to run, but any help is good.

They deffinetally produce alot of light I love them and pretty cheap to run if u run them at night

You will have to have reasonable distance and dimmed for seedlings. Depending on exactly which light, size of the space, and plant tolerance it vary some. We could give you some pointers but you should always monitor your plants and adjust as necessary.

@Killadruid, @dbrn32… I’ve got a 2 x 4 Closet grow starting… No tent No vent in an Air Conditioned Room… I Need a Better light than What I’ve got I realize… Can I back this Meizhi up with a little more Light , or Trash it and Get a Real Light?? Looking at a QB 120 or 132 Build possibly (trying not to add Heat Sinks to the cost) … I’m Not filling a Room, but I wanna Do justice to these Plants in flower… Can you show me a Do-able Recipe for My Hobby that I could Double Up and work a 4 x 4 on my next Attempt

I would get some vents and u could get a 260w qb kit. Or copy @Jbum veg light

A 120 or 132 build would be good. Or you can add a light to what you have too. Lots of ways to go about it.

I would like to see some improvement on what I’ve got going here without a bunch of expenditure @dbrn32… I’m guessing this Meizhi 450 light is about a 100 watt light… I’ve got the veg and Bloom lights on to make it a little more powerful hopefully … trying to figure out how I can supplement this light inexpensively through this first grow, but if it’s not going to happen tell me so and I’ll just buy qb132 kit … Thank you Sir
Half my plant under half a qb260. The other half under a cheaper 600watt. As you can see the ones on the left are much small than the ones under the 260. I grew nice bud under the 600watt. But the buds under the 260 are twice the size.

Thanks @Painfree… I guess then that the 4 x QB 132 Boards Will Help Me Greatly, and if I Do get a Larger Tent, then Will 2 of those QB 132 x 4 board Setups Work a 4 x 4 or maybe 5 x 5… They Dont Have any Red spectrum LEDs though… Do I need to Get some Red spectrum lighting in there Somehow?, and If So, then How Do I add some Red to my light… Heck, Is it Even Necessary to Have that? … Thank You Sir
I am no expert but the lights will do just fine without the red. It’s a new and improved thing but not much wrong with the older version without it.
