hello, I am looking at getting some better lighting for my 8’ x 5’ grow area, I have been reading lots of articles here and see many people like HLG quantum boards. i have done the Amazon 600 watt LED thing and then moved up to 600 watt HID lights and was pleased with the harvest,
but the cost of operating them is getting higher then i do. i have been looking at some HLG lights and am hoping someone can tell me if they would be good for my room. i plan to grow in about a 4’x4’ area.
the light i am looking at getting is HLG 300L v2 r spec with Samsung Lm301H LED’s ($633)
will this light do both veg and flower cycle.
do quantum boards produce more heat then HID lights.
there is also a HLG 300 v2 r spec with Samsung Lm301B LED’s ($778) both have the same specifications but different LED’s and price.
here is spec info:
I have just setup two qb260 rspec boards in one side of my 8x4 tent and I love em. The plants are taking off. I think you need the rspec for veg and flower. I have a 600w HPS on the other side and the difference is noticeable. @dbrn32 is the man for lighting. I’ve tagged him so he will be along when he gets time
I think you would be better off, and would have some flexibility too, if you went with 2 HLG 260 V2 Rspec XLs. They are pretty ideal for a 4x4, and the 320 won’t quite cover a 4x4.
I run 2 HLG 260xl rspec for my 4x4 tsnt and its worth the investment. The amazing crops is worth the costs. If you seen any of my pictures you will know you can grow beasts.
I agree with community members I think two of the HLG 260 v2 rspec XL would be a great choice for your space. Two separate lights gives you a little flexibility seems like you always have a couple plants that try to outdo the rest. Very happy with mine. And yes good for veg and flower.
@dbrn32 can help you.
Yeah as others have said, 2 of the HLG 260 XL rspecs would do nicely in a 4x4, though I’m a overkill kind of guy and would go with 2 320 XL’s instead for the added coverage.
The others have you in great shape. Two of the 260 xl kits will provide excellent coverage and par density in a 4x4.
I totally agree that 2 HLG 260XL lights would give better light coverage and also be more
suited to my setup but cost is a problem. I have enough for one light now and may get
another in a few months, so I was looking at the HLG 300L for the extra wattage. I may
use my HPS light to increase foot print when I have 3 or 4 plants growing. I am
new to quantum boards and there is lots to read and learn. is a driver the same
as a ballast for a HID light, if so would I need 2 drivers for 2 lights.
thanks for all the replies and help.
The HLG light kit comes with a Meanwell driver. Get another kit and another Meanwell driver for that kit. Get one now and when you can afford a second one then buy it.
Even with 1 HLG 260xl rspec will still produce a nice plant. Unless you prefer Autos and I personally hate them.
Yeah, buy one HLG260xl Rspec now as it is all you will need for a few months and buy another when they go into flower.
There is no extra wattage from the HLG 300 over the 260, same boards, same driver, same watts just different model numbers and fancy colored heatsink and pre-assembled and costs about $100 more.
still reading and looking and for sure learning, checked HLG for the 260 XL but they are out of stock until end of the month. @Hellraiser made a good point on the wattage of the 300 v2,
and the 260 XL thanks for pointing that out. I am now looking at the HLG 320W XL
v2 R spec kit, I like the extra bit of wattage because I will be using one light for now. may wait until I can get the 260 XL if my plants cooperate. I watched the assembly video and figure I can assemble it. what is the opinion on the HLG 320W XL v2 R spec, anyone using this light?
thanks for the help.
Hey man, there’s a company in Ohio that has the best prices on HLG lights. The Indoor Gardener in Parma Ohio. Look them up and give them a call. You’ll save money.
Im also interested in purchasing a similar light and searched the website of the company you mentioned. However, their website is garbage. Seems you have to call if you want to purchase something from them or visit in person.
Also, I couldn’t even find that they carry HLG. Let me know if there is something I’m doing wrong and can access HLG lights through them.
Their website is garbage. However, he is happy to help. Give him a call. He’s always real helpful with me.
Ok just checking
Lol
You seem like me. I felt the same.HLG was out of stock but supposedly they had one at GROWACE. Stay away from this company!!! I received mine - after much review- never anywhere did it say you needed a soldering iron to put together. ( none of the reviews, prob fake) I got a battered box, not instruction ,no labeling. Might as well take your chances on eBay… I have waited ONE MONTH , STILL WAITING for them to “ get approval” to return ( and that is accepting the $40 restock fee. How kind they “ offered” to send suggestions. I am a medical patient in treatment- and I just lost 2 months work. I time grow with my interventions so cannot start now.
Stay AWAY FROM HLG GROWACE. I have reported to FTC and if stuck with this, will turn over product To be evaluated for counterfeit parts ,
@NeoGroR thanks for the tip but I live in Canada, I would have
to pay tariff on it to get it across the border, so I ordered a 320w
v2 r spec from hlg Canada, cost a little more then I wanted to spend
but it should be a good light. supposed to arrive on june 2 in the mail.
