That’s the picture I was trying to send you and my phone won’t let me for some reason
Speaking more along the lines of tubs in fruiting conditions it’s so dry here and I’m having a hard time dialing everything in to what the summer months conditions are. Might have to put the breaks on until the spring not sure yet I’m positive that I’m not getting as much out of my efforts versus return. I have 6 tubs colonizing right now and if they don’t produce better than the last 6 I’ll just wait for better weather I think. Nobody likes a quiter but nobody likes to throw money away either yeah!!
I think I’m going to try again during the summer. That’s really the only type of “adventure” I’d want to go on anymore.
I was just talking to a buddy of mine about it the other day. We both had our most perspective-on-life changing experiences on the same day, after eating some shrooms that I grew.
It was this beautiful summer day, perfect temps, hanging outside at a friends house that was set back in the woods a bit. There was this little storm cloud in the distance but it never ended up making its way over to us. The gentle breeze rustling through the trees, and the songbirds, came together into this beautiful symphony.
There was this feeling of such beauty and harmony and it was all so perfectly connected but in way you could never possibly explain. And it was something that came from the earth which was revealing it to us but only for that brief moment.
This is exactly true! Its the same reason its so damn cold in a Dr’s office.
So i pulled the trigger and ordered a Max Yield monotub and it comes with 2 5lb bags of bulk substrate and 1 5lb bag of grain.
This is my first time trying to grow mushrooms. Is there anything else i need besides stuff like the 70% alcohol, gloves, the spores obviously…or is there a beginner strain i should pick GT, B+, ect…
I really appreciate any help if anyone has any opinions or can point me in the right direction…oh yea…where is the best place to order spores if u dont mind me asking.
B+, Treasure Coast, Golden Teacher, and my fave r44 from ralphsters are great starting strains!
Your gonna love this hobby
Im a huge fan of raplhsters. They have been around for over a decade and i was always happy with his supplies. Ralph himself is a very course individual, so if you contact him dont expect your usual customer service responses. Google ralphsters spores to find him.
Thats a loaded question!
Lets start with the basics.
Got the fruiting chamber, grain, and substrate…
Gonna need a mister spray bottle, the finer the mist the better. Buckets, likely need 1 or two 5 gallon buckets with lids. Mason jars, a pressure cooker (large enough to hold at LEAST 4 1 quart mason jars.) A pot large enough to boil 1 gallon (min) of water and either a laminar flowhood (best/most expensive) or a still air or glove box (cheapest, easiest and worst). Its also a good idea to designate a place only for grow operations and innoculations.
Curious, how much did your prefab monotub, grain and substrate cost you?
Just a heads up, you are gonna need to do some reasearch before you get started. Mushrooms are significantly more difficult to propigate, in my opinion. You wanna pay close attn to sterile procedure, grain spawn prep, substrate pasturization and spawning to bulk techniques.
Ill help if I can. Penny acvice- get ready to hurry up and wait. Patience will be your most valuble tool, seconded by your pressure cooker.
B+ is a great general starter. The Z strain is aggressive and also resists contamination according to a 10 best strains review i watched. I have been happy with spore store (no space) but i am going to try these guys over at limitless - genetics. (No spaces) they send spore swabs or fully colonized agar plates. The most important thing you need to know is ISO ISO ISO ISO everything you need to have a clean area. One last thing if you are not building you own shotgun fruiting chamber or a Monotub you can buy a inflatable monotube with plugs for colonizing and vent plugs for fruiting. from boomer shroomer Look at her Youtube for more information
I’ve always had good luck with them. It’s the only place I’ll buy from now.
I’ve grown a half-dozen each of both B+ and Z strain. My experience has been that B+ produces bigger flushes.
I have went so far as to ask them if i could just pick up my stuff lol ann arbor is only like 40 minutes away LOL. The gram of cbd bud is a nice touch also
the b+ is the only one that is spawned i mention the z strain just for the fact its supposed to resist contamination.
@MidwestGuy as you see i got a new pressure cooker. Now i was not expecting it to be so dag loud. Another person told me i could put a couple quarters on top of that weight and it will help with the noise and it will still be safe.
I wouldn’t mess with a PC not being able to properly vent. It could explode if the pressure gets too high.
I use one quarter and it keeps the noise down I wouldn’t use 2 just to be safe in
I will probably just deal with it LOL i can wait 90 minutes or 45 making LC lol
@First thats what my 4 UB bags look like now. I inoculated the 5th of this month and used Z strain this go around hoping they will be ready to move to sub in 2 weeks or so
Any strain of mycelium can overtake a contam.
Inside the jar its about the strongest genetics, he who multuplies the fastest wins. Z-strain or stargazers (few dfferent “specialty strains” out there) is a gimmick. Great way to charge an extra 10$ on a spore syringe. Im surprised that after all these years (like 15) they are still pushing that crap.
I agree with @MidwestGuy. DO NOT mess with the operations of your pressure cooker in any way!(especially if its an alluminum one) It will blow up right there on your stove sending flying shards of metal everywhere, just like a claymore mine. The rocker is supposed to rock, steam is supposed to vent randomly and its pretty loud. Remeber the boston marathon bombings in 2013? 2 pressurecookers were the bombs used. Do be careful.
I spent about 140 for all of it. I still need to buy some of that tape u put over the vent holes. Im going to sterlize my 4x4 and use that for the area to grow in.
I made my first grain spawn last night. I did put 1 quarter on the weight and it kept rocking and venting pressure but it also held 15psi for the whole 90 minutes. I got a 24 #5 plastic lids and a mod kit for those kids came with 64 self healing injection ports and 64 disks for venting. I’m really excited for my next set of spores. I was not expecting the smell lol it sure does not smell like oatmeal lol.
Here is the jar 1pint wide mouth
the camera does not do it justice lol its bigger then it seems LOL the picture looks like my 4oz jars LOL of brf.
Rye berries?
No it’s whole oats next to pop corn it’s the easiest to get 20 bucks for 50lbs at TSC
So if I was to order a variety of spores and only wanted to use one at a time. How would I store the other spores to keep the fresh and ready for use next time?
