Progress Report and also have a couple questions nothing to major. The Second photo is of the lowest fan leafs they were the very first to grow they are turning a bit yellow and the first is of the very next node of fan leaves right above it as you can see they are doing fairly well is my novice opinion. What should I do about those two yellowing leafs, should I prune them or just leave it be like I have been? I haven’t done anything to this Photoperiod except intensive LST. No topping, no pruning, etc ONLY LST has been done. I give nutes everywhere water with Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect Micro (1.5 mL per Liter), Grow (1.5 mL per Liter), Bloom (1 mL per Liter). She is in a 4 gallon pot and I give her a full Liter once or twice a week (depending on how fast her soil dries). I haven’t checked pH a single time, I haven’t checked humidity a single time, I haven’t cut a single leaf off, I haven’t measured light exposure, RH, I keep temp at a constant 69°-70°. This girl is about 4 Weeks and 3 Days old as of today she has 8 nodes (on main stem) with 9th node starting to pop up. She has had constant ladybug attention but I have yet to find any other bugs on her or in her medium. I have her on a 20/4 light cycle with cooler day and warmer nights. Her longest node is about 2 1/4 inches. And her overall length is standing straight up is about 15 inches (or 1 ft 3 in) and she is as I said before about 4 1/2 weeks into her veg stage. What are you guy’s opinions because to me she looks pretty good besides her perpetual stretching and light foliage. I would fill out the checklist people like to post on here but I have no way of accurately measuring over half the stuff on it so with the info I have provided and the pictures just give me your honest opinion about how she is doing.
The yellow leaves can come off…they have done their job.
Otherwise she looks healthy…good start.
Lower yellow leaves can come off. Plant overall looks good although node spacing and watering frequency indicate light levels may be too low. Not knowing what they are under makes it tough to say for sure though.
What medium are you in? If in soil I would not supplement until flipping.
@Myfriendis410 @Riskguy
I’m using two really cheap lights one is a 15 Watt Bseah 3 Head Red/Blue LED Grow Light that I got off Amazon. It’s about 2 inches away from the top of the plant and a even cheaper 9 Watt/ 60 Watt Equivalent Great Value Led Grow Light Bulb from Walmart. It’s about 2 1/2 inches above the plant. I was kinda working with an EXTREMELY tight budget (not so much as I didn’t have the money more that my wife would have lost her mind had I asked to spend $150-$200 on a light for it after already investing $100 on everything else for it lol). But the media is soilless. It’s Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix. Which isn’t intended for use with Mary Jane but…again…it was cheaper lol. Honestly at first I didn’t even think it would even begin to grow kinda started it thinking it would jus wither and die but it’s actually been quite the soldier. Cannabis is surprising resilient. And what do you mean supplementing? Supplementing with what? I’ll attach a picture of the set up I got going. I can’t stress this enough it is insanely cheap. Probably the cheapest set-up on this site I’m not gonna lie.
That’s literally all there is too it. My lights, a makeshift humidifier, a small desk fan and a small space heater. No tent, no big 500 chip LED, no meters or monitors etc.
@Dsull588 - we got you…this whole place is about helping people do the best they can with what they have and to make good decisions when there is an ability to upgrade. @Myfriends410 will likely have more advice…but here is my two cents.
Moisture control soil is usually not a good thing, we want our plants to drink frequently and to dry out completely between waterings. That soil tends to keep things wet. Since you are using it, make sure your plants are light before watering. This soil is preloaded with nutrients…but they are not going to give the plant everything they need so that is when you give supplements.
I must admit that I have been lucky with my nutrients…so I do not have advice on how to supplement the soil you have…but someone will.
Keep your lights as close as you can to the plant without burning them. It wants more, but there are folks on here that do a good job with low light. And please…do not spend money on another light without checking with this group. There are a lot of lighting experts.
Glad you decided to go for it, even better decision to join this group…welcome.
If your intent is to see what happens then it is understandable. If you want any decent flower from it you need more light. When a plant is small and vegging a lower amount of light can get by. It will be a little stretched out and sparse but growing. As it gets bigger it demands more and more light for photosynthesis. It needs even more when flowering. Having 20 hours of light helps supplement the lack of intensity. However, when you have to cut hours to 12 in order to produce flowers you will be in a tough spot.
Re bottom leaves - remove them they die off anyway.
I would also remove all growth from the node above them. It will not amount to anything.
LST or top? It is a tough call. It doesn’t really matter if more light isn’t added. I think I would put something like a tomato cage around the bucket and shape the plant to it in a circle.
At some point it will need to be flipped to flower. Otherwise it will just keep growing (hopefully)
It will need 12 hours of darkness to flower. Is it in a spot where this can happen?
Good luck - A nice grow light makes a fantastic early Valentine’s day gift.
I started exactly were you are. Miracle grow potting soil, miracle grow nutrients, $30 light, a desktop humidifier I received as a gift, a timer, a surge protector, everything in a closet lined with a Mylar emergency blanket, and black sheets from the thrift store to cover the closet opening. You will get a smokeable small harvest.
Save up $$ and you can upgrade. You can sometimes get some deals on eBay or FB marketplace.
Above all - Don’t give up! There are a lot of growers working with a limited budget and can give you suggestions.
PS If you can legally grow outdoors sunlight is free.
This is probably the worst medium you could grow cannabis in. For a large variety of reasons. It is not ‘soilless’ but a potting mix.
I’m afraid that your light is totally inadequate. You will need 150 actual watts of LED’s to flower each plant. There is no getting around this.
This is an Asian Beetle and not a ladybug on the plant. Just fyi they will bite you.
