@TheHag welcomed to theforum. Just seeing this. Looks like they’re recovering well. My guess was a little nute burn with a slightly high pH? FIM looks okay. It does slow it down but allows the middle to bush up. Looks like you’re doing well, have read, and are prepared.
Thanks for the welcome and response! Doing my ph’s today…finally. Needed distilled water for calibration, so yet another delay. I’ll have good solid numbers this afternoon.
Also have CalMag coming and ph up/down as well. Yes, assumedly high ph. Been watering with no nutrients for a week to stabilize and hope for some better results after a good balance is achieved. I’d say ph is my biggest issue, but will know better in a few hours! ![]()
Yep, once you get it dialed in. You’ll be good. Figure that soil as well so you know what you’re dealing with. This place will steer you to success.
Okay…FINALLY testing ph’s, and it’s all over the place, which is crazy, because the substrate is the same for all 4. Pictures will follow ratings.
Starting rain water: 6.41 ph, 007 ppm
Plant 1: 6.75 ph, 141 ppm
Plant 2: 7.05 ph, 216 ppm
Plant 3: 7.07 ph, 125 ppm
Plant 4: 6.08 ph, 112 ppm
Question 1: Will I need to mix different solutions for Plant 1, plants 2&3, and plant 4 (using ph up/down) to correct these issues?
Question 2: Nutrient difficiencies? And if so, which nutrients on which plants? Forum would have me believing Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium deficiencies, and maybe Nitrogen surplus due to the yellowing of lower leaves?
Question 3: Will correcting ph fix this without adding nutrients? I’m using Bergman’s fertilizer packs.
Final Question 4: When do I remove yellowing leaves? As soon as they start?
I feel like I’m over-thinking this, but each Plant has varied symptoms, and with the ph’s all over like they are, I’m perplexed.
*btw: I re-calibrated the ph meter AFTER all the testing to be sure, and my starting rain water tested at exactly 6.41 AGAIN, so I think everything is pretty accurate. Also, I watered very slowly to saturate the soil and avoid the water “bypassing” in each pot.
All Four
Plant 1
Plant 2
Plant 3
Plant 4
I would remove the yellow leaves. They wont recover. Leave anything with a hint of green. I think you were in coco? You’ll want to get some pH down. In the mean time you can mix the nutes and add about 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of vinegar to get pH down. Do you have the Bergmans mix chart? It requests a lower strength for hydro i think?
You are so awesome for the chart. I DID have it, but you pros on here are so willing to take the time to go the extra mile to help…from charts to articles. It SURE means a LOT!
I’ve got ph up and down on the way…couple days I hope. YES…Coco, but 50/50 with compost soil. The coco was more for drainage, as my compost was kinda sticky. Next year I’ll BUY .y soil, as it’s hard to know what nutes are high and low in home-made compost.
I’ll definitely add some vinegar. To the 3 higher ph plants. Great my rain water is 6.41.
Was hoping to get some of your feedback 2greenthumbs, now that I finally have my ph values listed. They are just before the recent photos in what has become an excellent but long and helpful thread.
Yes I agree with @SausageMahoney will definitely have to lower the pH, by fixing the pH and following the feeding chart will get your ladies back healthy again.
The hard part to fixing pH is not depleting what nutrients are already in the soil, if you just flush it you will still need a good feeding at the end to replace the nutrients.
Looks a bit to me like ppms are low on each plant, could also explain the yellow leaves the plant slowly pulling nutrients from other places in the plant,
How do I raise ppms? Start with tap water? Ppm’s for my rain water is just 007. Thanks Dan. The leaves are dropping fast…gonna lose MOST if this continues ![]()
What week are you on again and are they auto flower or photoperiod type seeds.
I remember your soil coco mix and all just need to know type of bean so I can help correctly.
Edit:
Looking back threw your on week 7ish so you mix your feed to 1.6ec or 800ppm then check pH of your water, u have pH up/down so if your soil pH is over 6.5 make your feed pH 5.7 and test run off, it’s not a immediate fix but will stop the plants from eating themselves.
If your plant pH is under 6.5 add pH up and make feed 6.8 to get the run off back to the sweet spot 6.3-6.5ph.
Thanks so much for the help!! Sorry for the delay…been outta town for Dad’s funeral.
As you most likely read, not autoflower, so it’s good I have some recovery time despite already losing some growth and yield because of these issues. Does it appear I have Nutrient issues, or just ph? Feeding with Bergman’s nutrient packs and schedule. I bought CalMag just in case, because it seemed to be lacking. Potassium too, but again…I can’t tell if the deficiencies are due to ph lockout or not having more than just the npk nutes.
I’m sorry for your loss, you need to get your pH to 6.3 -6.5 and raise your ppm to 800 on each of them they are showing signs of needing fed and the pH is out.
Make sure you do a drench to drought " heavy as a ton of bricks to light as a load of bread" between feeds, this will help fix and balance your soil and allow them roots to take in the much needed nutrients.
Thanks for the condolences! Do I get the ppm to 800 by adding the nutes? And do I drench for slurry ph and THEN add the nutes, or just drench with nute water…using your ph recommendations from earlier? I fully understand the drench to drought.
My rain water is 6.4 ph, and when I “flushed” the soil of each before being gone 3-1/2 days with no water, I expected to come home to 20 more yellow leaves and super sick plants. It was the opposite! Just flushing with good ph made a huge difference, but it was 007 ppm water, so it’s time to feed them. Just need to know if I drench them with the 800ppm nute water, or drench THEN feed.
Mix your nutrients in the water make sure they are fully mixed and then test both ppm and pH of the nutrients water, your numbers going in should be pH 6.2 ppm 800 and drench and get the run off but the last 20% to test both ppm and pH.
This run off test will let you know what the next steps will be in either pH adjustment or if you will need to add more nutrients on the next couple of feedings.
Edit:
Don’t forget to add pics they also tell a story and help get better answers especially when the expert growers start sharing their wisdom. Was not referring to myself as an expert bc I’m not just helping with what I see. But Merlin imo is an expert and would take all the advice I could from them.
rain water does not have enough TDS to measure pH. pH measurements of rain water and distilled water have no useful meaning.
Thanks SO much for all the time and effort to help me! My “quiet time” is during the heat of the day from noon to 6pm, so I’ll do what you advised after 6, get some numbers, and take some more pics! Again…thanks for your time and advice!!!
Not a problem at all, to get someone’s attention you can tag them by doing this, @TheHag and will notify that person of the post.
Where do I add @TheHag to tag, and how do I add hearts and likes to a person. I’ve clicked on their ILGM profiles (like yours) and not seen Hag to like them. Is it because I’ve been responding by email instead of directly in the ILGM forum? So new here…haven’t even learned the simple trivial stuff
No, the @ and someone’s name to tag them, the hearts are on the post to like it.
Awesome. Feel like a kid in 3rd grade who’s always raising his hand when all the other kids already got it ![]()
