Preps for Roots OG photo

Should I add any epsom salts or anything to 5 gallon pots of roots organics original soil? Heard some have calmag issues. If so, when to add & are there any specifics? Thanks!

What kind of water will you be using? With tap water, cal/mag or epsom salt is not always necessary when growing in soil. If you’re using pure water, like R/O filtered, rain, or distilled, then a small dose of cal/mag is usually suggested.

I have a grow going now in Roots Organics Original. It’s not my first choice, but my local grow store was out of my regular brand, and the Roots is the most similar alternative.

What are you expecting out of the soil? Roots original blend should carry plants in normal conditions for +/- 4 weeks. After that you should plan on supplementing a complete nutrient program for remainder of grow. Depending on what you use amd how you use it may or may not require a product like calmag. Calmag usually provides calcium, magnesium, and iron all of which are essential elements for cannabis. If your planned feeding program provides enough of these you shouldn’t need Calmag or anything like epsom salts. If it doesn’t then you probably will.

Really sorry I didn’t see this earlier, I do use tap water of 150-225 ppms. I figured as much, but just needed to make sure:)

Did you start with a 16-22oz cup and transplant after 2inches of overgrowth? Or something similar, just trying to make sure I could pour the soil and feed them till transplant.

Also similar to what I replied just a second ago, I’m first trying to use this soil to begin simple growth in a solo cup, then transplant into 5gals. I have uprising nutes, Buddha grow/bloom for later, also the terp teas. A lot of nutes, but no measurements for if I should amend the solo cup. Thank for responses as always:) hope your weekend is cherry

@Homayoun, here’s a link to the journal for my current grow. It has my process for starting seeds and raising seedlings. I’ll continue to update it through the grow.

You shouldn’t need to ammemd the solo cup unless you plan on having the plant in it for extended period of time.

Much thanks:)

@Cap_Ron thanks for the tag to your post, definitely keep updating as I’ll watch along too:) @dbrn32 I have a question tho, my temps average 85-100F during days, and my RH floats between 40-50 throughout the day. Is that too much? VPD levels are above recommended, and my leaf temps can reach over 100F, I notice really slow growth, what’s the recommendation? I live in Hawaii & it’s hard to keep house temps below 85ish

Sorry for bumping off topic, I just don’t want to spam posts. Thanks for all the advice once again.

Tent:

Considerations of a humidifier & outside driver mount, but unsure if a humidifier will help transpire or promote root/bud rot, and heard outside mounting (ontop of my tent or inside the room) is minimalistic to temp changes.

Right, simply driving rh to meet vpd won’t completely compensate for leaf surface temp being too high. Additional co2 could potentially help this some, but i’m not sure if it would be enough to justify. I think you get put into tough spot deciding whether to accept the situation you’re in or get the environmental controls to create an ideal environment.

I was thinking of CO2 too, but it’s more or less my air vents I believe. My boxfan is blowing air into my tent next to a window, also low to the floor so it’s getting decentish airflow, so I don’t think an in-line would prove to help much, also my tent is in my living-room. Only problem with CO2 is it’d need to buildup and I’d need to close additional air windows to the tent I believe. Is the only other option to cut losses & grow in different seasons, or buy an ac?

Unfortunately that is probably correct. Even with co2 it usually requires ro be in sealed environment to be most effective. Running a sealed grow usually requires ac and humidity control. If you’re able to keep co2 at 400ish ppm with just ac that is probably the way to go.
