10 days after transplanting

Good morning everyone,

I just want to start by saying I really appreciate all the helpful information everyone gave me last time I came here about my girls turning yellow. I can say that after taking the advice I was given to transplant them, they are looking so much better! This is my very first grow and I still have a lot of questions or really just need confirmation as to if I’m “doing it right”

I’ll upload some pictures below of my current setup, can you let me know how it looks?

Are my lights too close?

Currently I am using Vivosun LED grow lights and they are set to 100%. Is that too high?

Also, it has only been 10 days since the transplant so I have not added any nutes just water. They were transplanted in Fox Farm Ocean Forrest soil and in 5 gal containers. I only water them when the soil turns back light brown and looks dry or when I lift the container and it feels a little light. Is that a good way to tell or should I measure how much water I give them?

I have not purchased an inlet fax and duct yet. Is that something that I need to purchase ASAP?

Lastly, I have been thinking I might need another light, what do you think? I know I asked a lot of questions, I’m just trying to get as much info as I can from the greats so I can be great  If I asked too many questions please feel free to answer what you want, all advice is good advice. Let me know what you think! Thanks in advance!!!

Forgot to mention they are currently on an 18/6 schedule. 18 hours of light 6 hours of darkness.

Can you give some specific info about the light? @dbrn32 will be able to help with that?
How far away do you have it?

Looks like you’re doing good on the water. Shouldn’t need nutes till your ppm runoff is down to 1000 ppm’s. @Bulldognuts I think he can give more detail about the soil.

You will need an exhaust fan and a charcoal filter if you’re concerned about the smell.

Again that’s something db can help with.

Might be a good idea to fill out a support ticket so others will be able to help better.

Hey, as for nutes and watering, that ocean Forrest won’t need nutes for a while. 4-5 weeks. Water with Cal-mag added is my recommendation. And it appears as if you’re getting water on the plant itself. No no! Light will cause burning spots on leaves.

Thanks for the tag @HappyHydroGrower First, your node spacing looks good so I believe you’re OK on light distance. Second I noticed that your leaves have a lot of moisture on them, try to avoid getting water on leaves while lights are on. Third the FF OF should carry your girls for six weeks as far as nutrients goes. I noticed a little tip burn on your leaves, so your soil is still fairly hot. Can’t really be specific with nutrients without knowing what you intend to use. But you will need to eventually take runoff readings for ppm’s. The 1000 ppm runoff reading is what I use to start adding nutrients for the line I use. With the soil you are using and the size of your girls you don’t need to water to runoff yet. As long as your girls look healthy you can probably hold off on taking runoff readings for a couple of weeks. Be sure to PH water in at 6.5 Based on personal experience I would recommend that you start adding cal-mag to your watering if you aren’t already using any nutrients. I don’t specifically use a certain amount of water. Once you determine that they need water just water slowly starting around edge of pot moving inward towards center. Again, you don’t need to water to runoff just be sure that water has completely saturated soil. The main thing is don’t water to often, let soil get, not bone dry but reasonably dry. Hopefully this helps.

The others have you in pretty good shape. Light looks okay for now. What model is it? And how big is your tent? I’m asking because you may want more light later in grow.

Here is the link to the exact light that I am using

and when I measured, they were about 21.5 inches away from the top node.

Awesome, so I only need a fan if I’m worried about the smell? If so, I think I can go without it.

Your light is actually slightly to far away you can tell by the leaves praying (pointing upwards)

If you want to dial in water more closely either use the finger method, which is basically the same as cooking rice. Stick your finger in, if you don’t feel moisture by your second knuckle it needs water. Or pick up the plants and gently swing them. You’ll be able to feel the water in the soil, or lack of. If it starts swinging slow and takes a second to stop after you do, it doesn’t need water. If it just swings like there is no weight to it, because there isn’t, needs water. Everyone else got you covered otherwise. Will want to upgrade that light/get a second. Aim for ~50 running watts per square ft. Meaning that light will only cover 2 sqft when it comes time to flower, effectively.

So even though I used the FF Ocean Forrest, it’s okay to use CalMag this early? They were just transplanted 11 days ago? I am planning on using the FF Big Bloom and Other FF nutes when it’s time. Also thanks for the tip about the moisture. I sprayed them slightly just before the picture, I will never do that again

Great tip, thank you!!!

Any good recommendations for a second light?

About how close would you say it should be. It’s at 20.5 - 22 inches away right now. And should it be on 100% or 75%?

Water with calmag right now, even though I used the ocean Forrest? I don’t wanna give them the nutes if they’re not ready lol

If you aren’t afraid to build your own I’d recommend doing just that. One will be as good as two of those. For ~250. Because it’s two panels that are each better than your current. With heatsink and linked an appropriate driver. Meaning beyond this two things you just need wires and ends.

Or you can just use one of the 100 panels, along with current. And hope for the best. Would most likely be above expectations.

When using LED lighting Cal-mag is recommended. It doesn’t work like your regular nutes, NPK, as it’s not really feeding, more of a supplement. I begin cm long before I start feeding nutes.

Lighting has nothing to do with use with of calmag… calmag is mostly used with di or ro water on non feed days. Since by distilling or filtering out everything, including the good shit we still need, it needs to be replaced. That is the number one use of calmag. Just to clear that up.

On top of that. Calmag is 1-0-0 or 2-0-0. So yes, it falls exactly on the NPK scale… @TEGRITY

Guess I need to do some more research
I was under the impression that CM & LED kinda went together. Trying to remember where I read about that. Good to know, @Budz .

Well with led it’s easier than ever to optimize a grow. Meaning because of the spectrum and power we can provide to the plants now. We must also increase all other aspects of the process. Including nutrients, so calmag becomes a great tool. If you give the plant all this extra light without increased nutrient levels, it will cause a deficiency. There is a very subtle balance here. And it demands a high level of respect. But is highly forgiving at the same time. Everyone has to find their own way.
