Please teach me about dwc and the best thing to do with these air pumps

Hello ilgm fam, so I ended up finding two air pumps the other day and I am looking to put them to use and try to experiment with growing hydro style or dwc or whatever it is called. So I would like to take one pump and hook it up to a small Dollar store tote or something and use it for clones and seedlings. Then I was hoping I could take the other pump and hook up an air stone to a 5 gallon bucket and try to grow like that. But I know there is so much that I don’t know about that I need to know about growing in this style. I’ve done a little reading but really hope some people can break down the basics to me and the easiest thing to do with these pumps as far as making a DIY dwc system. I need to know a whole lot though as far as getting the whole thing started and how to give nutrients and water and how often to change it and how much water to put and all of that good stuff so if somebody has a minute I would very much appreciate the breakdown of this and hopefully somebody can help me set these pumps up. Thank you

Ok so i would get the black totes from home depot.. only like 9 bucks each. 4in air stone. Get good hydro nutes. Are you able to control temps in ur tent pretty good.. you wanna keep the water temp between 66 and 74 degrees. Look at my journal for dwc and see ny screw ups lol

Starters I would not advise this unless you are able to keep your grow water rez at 68-73°f , second get black air tube to eliminate a light leak source. I would advise drilling an airline size hole in the top side of your bucket for air tube and stone.

For $100 I rounded up I got

This is the Nutrients I was telling @Mmanson1981 to grab for DWC if doing autos with this line only 1/2 strength is used, photos get full strength.

Your first 2-3 weeks you don’t change the rez need the roots to get established after that it’s fully drain and replace weekly. You will have to top off.

I was having problems controlling my temps in water, tent, lungroom so I had to switch to soil.

On the pumps anywhere can you find the rating LPM/GPM or LPH/GPH
Liters or gallons per minute or hour

That info will help to know if you will have enough airflow into the rez

@DanB yeah I seen that you switch back to soil. I have a portable AC in my long room and it stays about 70 to 75. On the back of the pumps one of them say 1.75 watts and the other one says one 1.25 watts I believe

I am a transplanted cajun… grew up in Vinton by Lake Charles… DWC is not hard as long as you follow the basics…

@Retiredoldguy oh really that’s cool, where are you living at now?

@Retiredoldguy right, trying to get the basics learned now. I think I might start off with a small clone bin or something just to get a feel for it

Dallas Texas… light—heat—contamination— are what you need to control to be successful in DWC…

@Retiredoldguy @DanB @Mmanson1981 hey so I have this 5 gallon jug and I’m wondering if I can set this up for some clones or something, maybe even a whole plant if possible but I’m wondering everyone’s thoughts on the shape and whatnot

That will only work if you find a way to prevent light from coming threw container into the water otherwise you will get bad bacteria and have nothing but problems.

Black tubs, buckets, air lines ect. Think limo tint can see out but nothing comes in.

@DanB @Retiredoldguy hey I found these net pots I guess they are called, I have a good bit of them but I’m not sure what size these would be considered and I’m not sure what I am limited to when using these meaning like can I grow a whole plant in one this size or is this too small? Thanks

morning JayJay… I use 3 inch net pots with 2 inch rockwool cubes … the smaller the pot the more support you need above when she grows…I would not plant in anything smaller than 3 inch …
